KORE1, a nationwide provider of staffing and recruiting solutions, has an immediate opening for a Tax Supervisor/Manager in the Scottsdale area.
Location: Scottsdale, AZ (In-office through at least the 2027 tax season)
About Us
We're a boutique public accounting firm providing outsourced CFO, accounting, tax, and HR/payroll services to entrepreneurial businesses. Rather than operating as a traditional high-volume tax firm, we partner directly with business owners, providing strategic guidance that extends well beyond tax compliance. We're intentionally small, collaborative, and relationship-driven. Every team member has direct access to leadership, the opportunity to make an impact, and the ability to help shape the future of the firm.
The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Tax Manager who wants more than another public accounting position. This role is designed for someone interested in becoming a long-term leader within the firm. You'll immediately assume responsibility for an established portfolio of approximately 50% of the firms' returns while helping expand the practice as well. We have significant growth opportunities but have intentionally limited new business until we find the right person to help scale the tax practice. Over time, you'll become a strategic partner in managing and growing the tax department, with the potential for future leadership and ownership opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned portfolio of individual and small business tax clients from planning through filing.
- Prepare and review complex individual, partnership, S Corporation, C Corporation, and trust tax returns.
- Lead proactive tax planning, projections, and year-round advisory services for business owners and individuals.
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients by serving as their primary tax advisor.
- Review staff work, provide technical guidance, and mentor developing tax professionals.
- Research complex tax issues and communicate practical solutions to clients.
- Represent clients before the IRS by responding to notices, examinations, and other tax matters (preferred).
- Collaborate with the accounting and outsourced CFO teams to deliver integrated financial solutions.
- Help improve workflow, efficiencies, and internal processes as the tax practice continues to grow.
- Play an active role in expanding the firm's tax practice and supporting future growth initiatives.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of recent public accounting tax experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience reviewing individual and small business tax returns.
- Strong technical knowledge of pass-through entities, closely held businesses, and individual taxation.
- Proven ability to build strong client relationships and provide exceptional client service.
- Charismatic, personable professional who enjoys working directly with business owners.
- Experience reviewing work and mentoring or supervising staff.
- CPA license preferred (CPA candidates or Enrolled Agents may also be considered based on experience).
- Experience handling IRS notices, audits, and client representation is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with modern tax preparation software and cloud-based accounting technology.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where everyone contributes.
Work Environment
This position is fully in-office in Scottsdale through at least the 2027 tax season to support collaboration and client relationship development. Hybrid flexibility may be considered afterward based on business needs and performance.
Why Join Us?
- Opportunity to help grow a tax practice that has the capacity to significantly expand.
- Direct access to firm leadership and business owners—no unnecessary layers of management.
- Meaningful advisory work alongside outsourced CFO and accounting professionals.
- Small, collaborative team where your ideas and contributions directly influence the firm's future.
- Clear path toward senior leadership and potential ownership for the right individual.
- Opportunity to build something meaningful rather than simply managing tax returns.
