Tax Manager - Small Business

Location: Detroit metro (Southfield), MI

Overview

A national tax, assurance and advisory CPA firm is seeking a Tax Manager for its Detroit-area (Southfield, Michigan) office. This role delivers tax compliance, tax advisory and accounting services to small business clients, works side-by-side with firm leadership to serve clients and grow the business, and coaches a team of talented staff. Hybrid flexibility is available.

Responsibilities

• Provide tax, accounting and advisory services to small business clients
• Oversee services for accounting, bookkeeping and prepared or compiled financial statements
• Review and analyze client accounting records and reporting, provide analysis and consultation, and discuss accounting and business matters with clients
• Lead and plan client engagements and continuously improve processes, with emphasis on efficiency and identifying internal control issues
• Recommend business and process improvements based on knowledge of client operations and objectives
• Manage and build client relationships, resolve client issues and help identify additional services for clients
• Delegate and oversee team work by setting goals, providing resources and scheduling deadlines
• Maintain current knowledge of local, state and federal tax practices and laws
• Help manage engagement staffing, billing and collections and meet client profitability targets
• Coach and develop staff on technical and professional skills

Qualifications

• 4-year degree; CPA, law license or Enrolled Agent
• 5+ years of experience providing federal and state tax compliance, accounting and advisory services in a professional services firm
• 2+ years of supervisory experience mentoring and counseling associates preferred
• Strong management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project management and communication skills
• Highly developed software and Microsoft Office skills
• Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship preferred
