Location: Scotch Plains, NJ

Overview

A national CPA and advisory firm is seeking a Tax Manager for its private client tax practice in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. This role leads a team of tax professionals on engagements spanning individuals, trusts and closely held businesses, with strategic tax planning, advisory work and business development. Remote and hybrid options are available.

Responsibilities

• Review complex individual (Form 1040), trust (Form 1041) and business (Forms 1065 and 1120S) returns for accuracy and compliance with federal and state tax laws
• Lead tax planning engagements for individuals and small business owners, including asset protection, succession planning and retirement optimization strategies
• Manage multiple client relationships and engagements, monitoring deadlines, budgets and deliverables
• Supervise and mentor staff, providing technical guidance, quality review and developmental feedback
• Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors on integrated client solutions
• Identify and pursue business development opportunities, including expanding services with existing clients
• Contribute to internal training and professional development

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field
• 5+ years of public accounting experience with individual, trust and small business returns
• CPA or EA preferred
• Master's in taxation preferred
• Proven ability to lead, coach and develop a team across multiple engagements
• Proficiency in tax software such as CCH Axcess or GoSystem Tax RS
• Strong working knowledge of federal and state individual, trust and pass-through entity tax compliance
• Strong communication and client relationship skills
