Job DetailsAs a Tax Manager, you will play a key leadership role in managing tax engagements with a strong focus on real estate and partnership taxation. You will work closely with real estate clients and their related entities, providing tax compliance, planning, and advisory services while handling complex partnership and real estate tax matters.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns, with a strong emphasis on partnerships, real estate entities, and high net worth individuals.
- Prepare and review complex partnership tax returns involving real estate investments, including multi-tiered partnerships and various ownership structures.
- Advise clients on complex real estate tax matters, including IRC Sections 704(c), 754, 1031, and 1033.
- Analyze and allocate partnership income and distributions, including experience with hypothetical liquidation approaches and target capital account allocations.
- Assist clients with tax planning strategies related to real estate acquisitions, dispositions, exchanges, partnership restructuring, and other transactions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to real estate clients, providing guidance on complex tax issues, compliance requirements, and tax-saving opportunities.
- Conduct detailed tax research and stay current on changes to federal, state, and local tax regulations impacting real estate and partnership clients.
- Lead, mentor, and review the work of staff and senior tax professionals.
- Manage client relationships and serve as a primary point of contact for assigned engagements.
- Collaborate with partners and other departments to deliver comprehensive tax and advisory services.
- Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities to expand client relationships and contribute to new engagements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master’s degree and/or CPA designation preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or a similar environment.
- Strong public accounting background with significant experience in partnership and real estate taxation.
- Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing complex partnership tax returns and related real estate entities.
- Strong understanding of partnership tax concepts, including IRC Sections 704(c), 754, 1031, and/or 1033.
- Experience with partnership income allocations, capital accounts, and hypothetical liquidation or target capital account methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance, planning, and research.
- Ability to analyze complex real estate transactions and identify tax planning opportunities.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop tax professionals.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and client relationship skills.
- Proficiency with tax software and Microsoft Excel.
