What You'll Do

Ready to take your tax career to the next level? At Cohen & Co, we're looking for a Tax Manager or Senior Manager to join our Business Tax Services team serving closely held businesses and/or private equity portfolio companies.

This is a highly visible opportunity for someone looking to accelerate their career in public accounting. You'll work directly with Partners and firm leadership, gain exposure to business development and practice growth initiatives, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients while building and maintaining strong relationships. Tax Strategy & Compliance

  • Lead the planning, review, and delivery of federal, state, and local tax compliance engagements for closely held businesses and private equity portfolio companies.

  • Provide technical guidance on complex tax matters involving C-Corporations, S-Corporations, Partnerships, and multi-state taxation.

  • Identify tax planning opportunities, process improvements, and strategies that help clients achieve their business objectives.

  • Stay current on tax law changes and industry developments to deliver proactive, strategic advice.

Client Experience & Advisory

  • Serve as a primary point of contact and trusted advisor for clients throughout the year.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive service and thoughtful tax planning recommendations.

  • Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and practical manner to business owners, executives, and other stakeholders.

  • Manage engagement timelines, expectations, and deliverables while ensuring exceptional client service.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead engagement teams, providing coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to seniors, associates, and staff.

  • Review work products and ensure high-quality, accurate, and timely deliverables.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment focused on professional growth and development.

  • Help drive efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement across engagements.

Business Development & Practice Growth

  • Work directly with Partners and firm leadership to support business development initiatives and identify opportunities to expand client relationships.

  • Participate in networking, relationship-building, and market-facing activities throughout Northeast Ohio.

  • Contribute to strategic growth initiatives within the Business Tax Services practice and help shape the future direction of the team.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required.

  • Manager: CPA preferred. Candidates actively pursuing their CPA are encouraged to apply.

  • Senior Manager: CPA required.

  • Manager: 5+ years of public accounting tax experience.

  • Senior Manager: 8+ years of public accounting tax experience with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.

  • Strong experience serving closely held businesses, middle-market companies, and/or private equity portfolio companies.

  • Technical knowledge of:

    • C-Corporations

    • S-Corporations

    • Partnerships

    • Tax research

    • Multi-state taxation

  • Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build trusted client relationships.

  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe, and tax technology tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members, manage client relationships, and lead complex engagements.

  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in practice growth and business development.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
