Description

The Tax Manager will be responsible for the tax planning and compliance functions for ultra-high net worth individuals and their families with a specific focus on financial service type clients, such as hedge-fund, private equity, and other investment type individuals. The individual will also work closely with the CFO of the fund to handle the tax planning and compliance function of the management company.

This individual is responsible for managing staff, maintaining close client relationships, prospect and assist with building a sustainable business and will work closely with Partners to best service clients in an entrepreneurial environment that prides itself on excellent client service and tax expertise.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Interact closely with clients to provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise.
  • Provide primary review of complex tax returns and maintain client contact.
  • Maintain and foster relationships with clients, staff, and outside third-party client vendors.
  • Tax planning, preparation and research for our high-net-worth individuals and related business entities including partnerships, have a thorough understanding of how to regard a hedge-fund K-1 as well as some knowledge of trusts, estates, gifts, and charitable entities.
  • Review tax returns and work papers prepared by staff.
  • Train and supervise staff along with reviewing and evaluating their work.
  • Keep abreast of legislative and tax policy changes at both Federal and State levels.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work in the New York City office a minimum of 3 days per week.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university required.
  • Active CPA license or EA certification required.
  • MST, JD, or LLM in Taxation a plus.
  • 7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with a focus on high-net-worth individuals, family offices, or private client services.
  • Working knowledge of foreign reporting requirements, including forms such as 926, 8865, 8938, 5471, 8621, 8886, and FBAR.
  • General understanding of pass-through entity taxation at both the individual and entity level.
  • Strong technical expertise in individual, trust, estate, and gift taxation.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, tax research platforms, and tax software (e.g., Engagement, Caseware, or similar).
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and mentor team members.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with executive presence.
  • Performing, documenting, summarizing, and reviewing research conclusions regarding specific tax issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and contribute to firm growth.
