Job Summary
 The Tax Associate is responsible for preparing and reviewing federal, state, and local tax returns for affordable housing partnerships, nonprofit organizations, corporations, and public housing entities. This position specializes in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), HUD, and Public Housing Authority (PHA) clients, ensuring compliance with IRS regulations and housing program requirements. The Tax Associate prepares complex partnership tax returns, K-1, K-2, and K-3 reporting, tax projections, and supporting schedules while working closely with audit teams, managers, and clients. 


Responsibilities 
  • Tax Return Preparation
    •  Prepare federal and state partnership tax returns (Form 1065). 
    •  Prepare corporate income tax returns (Forms 1120 and 1120S). 
    •  Prepare exempt organization returns (Form 990 and Form 990-PF, when applicable). 
    •  Prepare fiduciary and other required tax filings as assigned. 
    •  Prepare amended tax returns and extension filings. 
    •  Prepare estimated tax calculations and quarterly tax payments. 
  • Affordable Housing & LIHTC Tax Compliance
    •  Prepare tax returns for Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) partnerships. 
    •  Prepare tax returns for HUD-assisted and Public Housing Authority (PHA) entities. 
    •  Review partnership agreements and allocation provisions. 
    •  Calculate and report tax credit allocations. 
    •  Prepare depreciation schedules and fixed asset reconciliations. 
    •  Prepare Section 42 compliance tax information. 
    •  Assist with cost certifications and tax basis calculations. 
    •  Prepare tax projections for affordable housing partnerships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation.
  • CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA certification preferred.
  •  1–3 years of public accounting or tax experience. 
  •  Experience with affordable housing, LIHTC, HUD, or nonprofit taxation preferred
Required Skills


  •  Strong knowledge of partnership taxation. 
  •  Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations. 
  •  Experience preparing Forms 1065, 1120, and 990. 
  •  Experience preparing Schedules K-1, K-2, and K-3. 
  •  Understanding of LIHTC and affordable housing tax compliance. 
  •  Proficiency with Microsoft Excel. 
  •  Experience with tax preparation software (CCH Axcess, Lacerte). 
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  •  Excellent organizational and communication skills. 
  •  Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines. 
Preferred Qualifications


  •  Experience with HUD-assisted housing and Public Housing Authorities. 
  •  Knowledge of IRS Section 42 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit regulations. 
  •  Experience preparing Forms 8609 and 8609-A. 
  •  Familiarity with Uniform Guidance and nonprofit tax compliance. 
  •  Experience reviewing partnership operating agreements and tax allocation provisions.
