Tax Associate Attorney (Real Estate Tax)

Direct Counsel is seeking a Tax Associate to join a prestigious and growing tax practice in Washington, D.C. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney interested in sophisticated real estate tax matters, including transactions involving REITs, real estate investments, and complex tax structuring issues.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in tax law, outstanding analytical and writing skills, and experience with—or a strong interest in—real estate-related tax matters.

• Advise clients on the tax aspects of complex real estate transactions
• Analyze and structure transactions involving:
  • Real estate investments
  • REITs
  • Real estate acquisitions and dispositions
  • Joint ventures
  • Financing transactions
• Conduct tax research and prepare legal memoranda on sophisticated tax issues
• Assist with transaction structuring, due diligence, and tax planning strategies
• Draft and review transaction documents with tax considerations in mind
• Collaborate with real estate, finance, corporate, and investment funds attorneys
• Participate in client meetings and transaction execution
• Advise clients on evolving tax laws, regulations, and market developments affecting real estate investments

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Law school class years 2022 and above
• Strong understanding of tax law fundamentals
• Experience with, or a demonstrated interest in:
  • Real estate transactions
  • REITs
  • Real estate investment structures
• Excellent legal research and writing abilities
• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to think creatively and develop practical solutions to complex tax issues
• Outstanding academic credentials

• Salary range: $260,000 – $420,000
