    Description

    GateSource HR is working with a partner to find a Systems Technician to support and maintain specialized communication and IT systems. This role involves hands-on technical work, including installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of RF and digital radio systems, as well as IT infrastructure. The position requires a mix of fieldwork and technical analysis, with regular travel to customer sites and participation in a rotating on-call schedule.

    Responsibilities:
    • Provide technical support for communication systems and applications.

    • Conduct preventive maintenance routines, document findings, and analyze performance trends.

    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in software-driven electronics and communications infrastructure.

    • Provision and optimize RF, microwave, and IT systems.

    • Work across multiple platforms, including:

    • Legacy analog radio systems

    • P25 digital radio systems

    • IT systems with VMware and Cisco networking

    • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (every 2–3 weeks), requiring availability at night and in remote areas. On-call duty includes overtime and additional pay.

    Requirements

    • 3+ years of experience working with LMR / RF systems or IT systems.

    • Associate’s degree in electronics preferred; equivalent 3–8 years of experience accepted instead of formal education.

    • FCC General Radio Operator’s License (GROL) required within 180 days of hire.

    • Familiarity with RF systems (transmitters, receivers, antenna networks, microwave) and/or IT systems (Microsoft Servers, Active Directory, VMware, Red Hat Linux, Cisco, TCP/IP).

    • Experience gathering and reporting technical data (antenna readings, cable sweeps, channel alignments, IP traffic analysis, Wireshark, etc.).

    • Skilled with diagnostic and test equipment: communications monitors, T1 test sets, antenna/network analyzers, laptops, Cisco and Linux command line tools, SSH/FTP/Telnet.

    • Valid U.S. driver’s license with ability to travel daily to various, including remote, customer sites.

    • Overnight travel up to 15% and ability to lift at least 70 lbs. required.
