This role offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle as a Systems Integration and Test Engineer, collaborating closely with system engineers, software developers, network engineers, and other test engineers. You will help define, plan, and execute integration and system testing for large-scale physical systems, ensuring that technical requirements are fully verified and that new or enhanced functionality operates reliably in real-world conditions. You will contribute to requirements and design reviews, build test environments, develop comprehensive test plans from scratch, and provide detailed documentation and reporting that support deployment and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with system engineers, software developers, network engineers, and other test engineers in a team environment throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• Participate actively in system requirements reviews to understand and clarify technical and operational needs.
• Participate in software design reviews and review design specifications and other technical documentation to inform test planning and strategy.
• Set up and configure test environments, including test labs, rack-and-stack activities, and system simulation setups to support integration and system testing.
• Develop comprehensive Integration and System Test Plans from scratch based on pre-defined and new operational scenarios for new and enhanced functionality.
• Analyze system and software requirements and translate them into clear, traceable test cases and test procedures.
• Conduct integration and system testing in the test environment alongside other test engineers to verify that technical requirements are met.
• Create, execute, and maintain test cases, including both manual and automated approaches where applicable, to validate functionality, performance, and reliability.
• Identify, document, and help resolve operational defects discovered during integration and system testing, working closely with technical teams to drive issues to closure.
• Validate user documentation and deployment procedures by exercising them in the test environment and providing feedback for improvements.
• Prepare clear, detailed test reports that summarize test activities, results, defects, and recommendations, and review these reports with technical teams and external stakeholders as needed.
• Communicate test status, risks, and issues clearly and professionally to project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze test results, investigate anomalies, and propose practical solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes, tools, and documentation within the test lab and broader engineering team.

Essential Skills

• Approximately 10 years of experience in integration and system testing or closely related roles.
• Experience working with large-scale physical systems, including integration and testing in a lab environment.
• Proven experience setting up and managing test environments, including test labs and rack-and-stack activities.
• Strong background in requirements analysis, including reading and interpreting system and software requirements.
• Hands-on experience creating and executing test plans and test cases to verify system and software functionality.
• Proficiency in developing comprehensive Integration and System Test Plans from scratch based on operational scenarios.
• Experience with integration and test activities, including system simulation and validation of complex systems.
• Strong documentation skills, including test plan development, test procedure creation, and report writing.
• Familiarity with communication systems and communication protocols as they relate to system integration and testing.
• Demonstrated ability to validate user documentation and deployment procedures through structured testing.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with technical teams and stakeholders.
• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills for diagnosing issues and evaluating test results.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with engineers from multiple disciplines.

Work Environment

You will work in a collaborative team environment alongside system engineers, software developers, network engineers, and other test engineers. The role is based primarily in a laboratory setting, where you will set up and maintain test environments, perform rack-and-stack activities, and work hands-on with large-scale physical systems and system simulations. The position follows a 9/80 schedule, providing a structured workweek with every other Friday typically off, and Fridays that are worked are performed remotely. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Annapolis, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $135000.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
