Systems Engineer

Job Description

The Systems Engineer designs, develops, and implements complex systems architectures that meet demanding technical and operational requirements. This role collaborates closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to translate mission needs into technical specifications, integrate multi-vendor capabilities, and ensure successful deployment, integration, and support of advanced, cutting-edge solutions in a dynamic engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement complex systems architectures that meet defined technical and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather system requirements and translate them into clear, actionable technical specifications.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate capabilities into the overall system architecture, considering both technical and operational aspects.
  • Align delivery plans with overall project timelines and milestones to ensure coordinated and timely implementation.
  • Coordinate with the System Architect to ensure all deployment activities comply with the overall system design and architectural standards.
  • Support installation and configuration of system hardware, operating systems, and software applications across multi-vendor environments.
  • Perform system integration activities, including integration testing and troubleshooting, to validate system functionality and performance.
  • Analyze and validate data flows across data layers, databases, middleware, and data transfer mechanisms to ensure reliable and secure operations.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including configuration details, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Support verification testing and participate in Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) activities to resolve issues and improve system reliability.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams, assisting with system-related issues and integration challenges.
  • Contribute to the design and integration of microservices, containers, and cloud-based components within scalable architectures.
  • Collaborate on the integration of ISR, geospatial, surveillance, and multi-vendor applications into cohesive system solutions.
  • Participate in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) activities where applicable, supporting iterative development and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams and stakeholders, providing clear status updates, technical explanations, and recommendations.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience working as a Systems Engineer or in a similar engineering role.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing complex systems architectures.
  • Solid understanding of hardware, operating systems, network protocols, and software applications.
  • Experience with systems integration, including architecture support and defining internal and external interface definitions such as Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Interface Control Documentation (ICD).
  • Experience performing integration testing and validating end-to-end data flows.
  • Experience with verification testing and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Understanding of network protocols including DNS and TCP/IP.
  • Experience working with data layers, databases, middleware, and data transfer mechanisms.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system issues in multi-vendor and distributed environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Active SECRET security clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of network design and cloud technologies.
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and scaled agile delivery environments.
  • Experience in a customer-facing or consulting role, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Experience with system architectures that include software containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
  • Experience with cloud platforms including AWS and Azure.
  • Experience in systems integration involving microservices, containers, and data lake architectures.
  • Experience integrating ISR, geospatial, surveillance, and multi-vendor applications into unified solutions.
  • Familiarity with data lake concepts and large-scale data transfer and processing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment working with innovative and bleeding-edge technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with customers and internal teams.

Work Environment

This role operates within a large, collaborative engineering program, working alongside approximately 160 engineers on advanced, innovative solutions. The position is hybrid, with three days onsite and two days remote each week, offering a balance of in-person collaboration and focused remote work. The environment emphasizes new development, bleeding-edge technology, and modern system architectures that leverage microservices, containers, cloud platforms, and complex data flows. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $95.00/hr.
