Standard Job Description

Lockheed Martin Rotary & Mission Systems seeks a highly skilled Field Systems Engineer to sustain a large‑scale, ground‑based, software‑defined radio‑frequency (RF) system located overseas. The installation consists of parabolic‑dish antennas, high‑power amplifiers, and a cloud‑hosted application stack that integrates RF, hardware, software, network, and IT subsystems.

The engineer will focus on the sustainment of the integrated mission‑application software and the physical transmit/receive RF paths that deliver mission capabilities. Required expertise includes Linux‑based mission‑software operation and familiarity with RF test equipment. The role is embedded with government operators, providing day‑to‑day technical support, preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring operational availability.

Work Environment

• Working at height inside large antenna structures is frequently required.
• Shift work or offset hours may be needed to de‑conflict activities or align with CONUS time zones.

Key Responsibilities

• Operation Support

• Oversee system operation by government operators and document subsystem availability per the Mission Essential Subsystem List (MESL).

• Implement RF‑link health and application‑availability monitoring methods.

• Generate periodic status reports.

• Technical Oversight

• Provide on‑site subject‑matter expertise for both mission‑application software and RF/antenna hardware.

• Collaborate with the factory on O&M manuals, incorporating field lessons and driving continuous‑improvement updates.

• Preventive Maintenance

• Receive and integrate scheduled mission‑software deployments.

• Execute regression testing for new releases or routine patches to maintain mission‑capability availability.

• Corrective Maintenance

• Detect, isolate, and recover from faults across software and hardware domains.

• Perform cross‑domain troubleshooting, document defects, and complete root‑cause corrective‑action reports.

• System Modifications

• Act as system integrator for upgrades and modifications.

• Work with the factory on Modification Test Plans, execute test procedures, and supply data for Modification Test Reports.

• Software As‑Built Configuration Management

• Track deployed software versions, including subcontractor firmware.

• Synchronize configuration changes with the factory GitLab repository.

• Hardware As‑Built Configuration Management

• Record hardware replacements in the defect‑report and maintenance‑management system.

• Verify as‑built hardware baselines against drawings and schematics, especially during remove/replace or new‑install activities.

• Communicate redlines to the factory for baseline updates.

• Reporting

• Produce daily reports, mission logs, regression‑test data, and defect reports.

• Deliver data to satisfy customer CDRLs, O&M dashboards, internal status tracking, and cross‑functional technical collaboration.

• Business Rhythms

• Support regular business‑rhythm forums to enable planning, status tracking, and rapid issue resolution across LM, subcontractors, and government stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

• BS in Engineering STEM field
• Security Clearance required Prior to Start: Top Secret
• 5 years of Systems engineering integration and test for end-to-end hardware/software integrated systems
• T-shaped professional with deep expertise in one of the disciplines listed under Desired Skills as well as cross-disciplinary foundation across others
• Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to generate clear technical briefings and reports for senior leadership or government stakeholders.
• Extended deployment in OCONUS location

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $95900.00 - $178100.00
