Systems Engineer - Software Applications III
Location: Ft Worth, TX (hybrid, 3x/wk onsite)

Position Summary
Our client, a global leader in advanced autonomous and robotic solutions across multiple industries, is seeking a Systems Engineer – Software Applications III. The Systems Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible for leading requirements engineering for complex systems and software applications. This role translates business and product objectives into detailed system requirements, drives system architecture and interface definition, supports functional safety activities, and collaborates with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle. The engineer also provides technical leadership, mentors junior engineers, and ensures system requirements are traceable, verifiable, and aligned with quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and management for complex software and system features.
- Translate product objectives into structured, traceable system requirements and technical specifications.
- Develop and maintain interface control documents (ICDs), system models, and technical documentation.
- Define system architecture, interfaces, performance metrics, and acceptance criteria.
- Lead requirements prioritization, change impact analysis, and trade studies.
- Support functional safety activities, including HARA, STPA, and FMEA, ensuring safety requirements are incorporated into system specifications.
- Lead requirements validation, traceability, compliance reviews, and test plan reviews.
- Collaborate with software, systems, architecture, product management, and test teams throughout development.
- Support Concept of Operations (ConOps), lifecycle planning, customer technical discussions, and design reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote systems engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 4–7 years of experience in systems engineering, requirements management, or software systems development.
- Experience managing requirements throughout the full product development lifecycle.
- Proficiency with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Experience using requirements management tools such as Jama Connect, IBM DOORS, or Polarion.
- Working knowledge of systems engineering, functional safety, and quality standards, including ISO 15288, ISO 9001, ISO 25119, IEC 61508, and ASPICE.
- Experience supporting or leading safety analyses (HARA, STPA, FMEA).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications- INCOSE SEP, IREB CPRE, or comparable Systems Engineering certification.
- Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, automotive, industrial automation, or other safety-critical products.
- Experience defining system architectures, interface specifications, and verification strategies for complex embedded software systems.
