The Fountain Group is currently seeking a Systems Engineer II - for a prominent client of ours. This position is located in Santa Clara, CA. Details for the position are as follows:

 

Systems Engineer II
Location: Santa Clara, CA (On-site)
Pay Rate: $46.26–$57.55/hr
Duration: 1 Year

Job Description

  • Support the development, integration, verification, and validation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows and systems.

  • Design, execute, analyze, and document wet-lab experiments for sequencing feasibility and system integration.

  • Perform sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, PCR, and sequencing experiments.

  • Optimize sequencing protocols and support system-level integration activities.

  • Develop and execute verification and validation test cases based on product requirements.

  • Analyze experimental data using statistical methods and troubleshoot assay, instrument, and workflow issues through root cause analysis.

  • Collaborate with assay, instrumentation, software, bioinformatics, and systems engineering teams to improve sequencing performance and system reliability.

  • Maintain detailed laboratory documentation following GLP and laboratory best practices.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or

  • Master's degree in a related field with 1–3+ years of relevant experience.

Required Skills

  • Hands-on experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows.

  • Experience with PCR, DNA sequencing, nucleic acid extraction, sample preparation, and library preparation.

  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, Git, or similar tools for data analysis and automation.

  • Experience with JMP, regression analysis, ANOVA, and statistical data analysis.

  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).

  • Experience with verification and validation (V&V) testing.

  • Root cause analysis of laboratory, assay, and instrument failures.

  • Laboratory documentation and test protocol development.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with single-molecule sequencing platforms.

  • Knowledge of sequencing system integration and workflow optimization.

  • Experience improving sequencing performance, throughput, coverage, reproducibility, and robustness.

  • Background working with bioinformatics, instrumentation, or assay development teams.
