Systems Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, testing, and lifecycle management of advanced defense and aerospace systems. This role works closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop complex hardware and software solutions, ensuring systems meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
The ideal candidate has a strong systems engineering background, experience with integration and testing, and the ability to solve complex technical challenges in a highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Design & Development
- Design and develop system architectures, subsystems, and components for defense and aerospace applications.
- Analyze system requirements and conduct feasibility studies.
- Create technical design specifications and support system architecture development.
Systems Integration & Testing
- Lead the integration of hardware, software, and subsystem components.
- Coordinate system integration activities to ensure functionality and interoperability.
- Troubleshoot integration issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support computer integration and system testing activities.
Requirements Management
- Capture, define, and manage system requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
- Allocate and trace requirements across system components.
- Maintain complete requirements traceability using industry-standard tools.
Verification & Validation
- Develop verification and validation plans.
- Execute system-level testing and evaluate performance against requirements.
- Analyze test results and document findings.
Risk Management
- Identify technical risks related to system design, integration, and deployment.
- Develop mitigation strategies to improve system reliability, safety, and performance.
System Lifecycle Support
- Support configuration management, system upgrades, and maintenance planning.
- Monitor operational performance and recommend system improvements.
- Assist with long-term lifecycle management activities.
Documentation
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including:
- System specifications
- Design documentation
- Test plans and procedures
- Verification reports
- User documentation
- Ensure compliance with applicable defense and aerospace standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering, program management, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and project presentations.
- Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in:
- Systems Engineering
- Aerospace Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Or a related engineering discipline
- 7+ years of systems engineering experience, preferably within the defense or aerospace industry.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, processes, and best practices.
- Experience with computer integration and system testing.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related engineering discipline.
- Experience with:
- Bash scripting
- Avionics systems
- Sensors
- Communications systems
- Software integration
- Knowledge of defense and aerospace standards and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with systems engineering tools such as:
- IBM DOORS
- SysML
- MATLAB
- Simulink
- Project management experience supporting engineering development programs.
Security Requirements
- Ability to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance, if required.
- Must be willing to comply with all applicable government security policies and procedures.
