About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Systems Administrator to join our IT team at Muskegon Community College. As a Systems Administrator, you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing the administration of various systems essential to Muskegon Community College''s operations. Your responsibilities will encompass system design, configuration, maintenance, and support. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of our IT infrastructure.

The System Administrator position is highly technical in nature. The position involves network and server design, administration, configuration, installation, upgrades, security, and troubleshooting. Duties are performed on a variety of network hardware with an emphasis on Cisco network switches, firewalls and wireless, Windows servers and Microsoft HyperV virtualization. This position is in support of Muskegon Community College and reports to the Director, Technical Services.

Where You Will Make An Impact

• System Administration: Administer and maintain a diverse range of systems, including but not limited to:

• Microsoft Windows Server, AD, DHCP, DNS

• Virtualization platform (Hyper-V)

• Cloud infrastructure (Azure)

• Database management systems (SQL Server)

• Network and storage systems (Cisco IOS) (Alletra SAN)

• VPN access and Site to Site VPN (Cisco Meraki)

• Backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam)

• Identity and access management systems (Azure SSO)

• Monitoring and alerting tools

• Administration of Zoom phone system

• System Design and Optimization: Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to design, implement, and optimize systems to meet evolving business needs. Ensure system performance, scalability, and reliability.

• Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain security best practices, conduct regular system audits, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

• Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, provide technical support, and coordinate with vendors when necessary.

• Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

• Backup and Recovery: Maintain disaster recovery strategies to safeguard critical data and ensure business continuity.

• User Support: Provide technical support to end-users, assist with system-related inquiries, and conduct training as needed.

• Team: Be part of a team. Share knowledge. Mentor. Be open, honest, and have a positive attitude.

• Other: Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to deal with outages and maintenance windows.

• Some experience configuring/managing IPsec tunnels and VPN
