About the Position
The Systems Administration Specialist III is a senior-level technical professional responsible for the development, enhancement, and maintenance of multi-platform hardware and software operating systems that support mission-critical PERS programs and services. This role manages moderately complex infrastructure environments and may oversee multiple platforms or system administration teams across assigned agencies or divisions. The position operates with a high degree of independence and is expected to uphold PERS and state IT standards, ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and contribute to secure, reliable technology services for the public. - Key Responsibilities: • Administration of multi-platform operating systems to ensure availability, performance, and security for PERS programs and services. • Implements system enhancements and upgrades, coordinating with agency stakeholders to minimize service disruption. • Oversees daily system operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization across assigned environments. • Provides technical leadership for system administration teams or cross-agency technical groups. • Develops and maintains technical documentation aligned with state IT policies, standards, and audit requirements. • Ensures compliance with state cybersecurity policies, data protection standards, and federal regulatory obligations. • Manages vendor relationships for less complex applications, including contract coordination, support escalation, and service delivery oversight. • Collaborates with agency IT leaders to support statewide initiatives, modernization efforts, and shared service platforms. • Participates in continuity of operations (COOP) planning and disaster recovery exercises to maintain essential government services. • Evaluates emerging technologies and recommends improvements that enhance efficiency, security, and service delivery. • May require occasional after-hours support for maintenance windows or incident response. • Hybrid or onsite work, depending on agency and operational needs. • Must manage multiple priorities in a service-oriented, compliance-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 7-10+ years of IT experience with emphasis in multi-platform hardware and software systems and systems administration. - Agency Preferred Qualifications: • Experience supporting complex infrastructure in government, public sector, or similarly structured environments preferred. • Experience with vendor management, including contracts, SLAs, and procurement processes.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave
Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
