Job Title: Systems Support Specialist Reports to: Executive Director, Technology Pay Grade: AUX 06 Contract Days: 226 Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Funding Source: Local Revision Date: February 2024 Primary Purpose: The Under general supervision, troubleshoots, installs, maintains, operates, and supports complex client computing technology, peripheral devices, operating systems, and related technologies requiring advanced technical skills. This individual will play a crucial role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing the district's comprehensive IT infrastructure. Qualifications: Education/Certification: • High school diploma or equivalent Special Knowledge/Skills: • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications and computer workstation setup • Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals, including printers , modems, scanne rs • Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware • Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs Experience: • Two yea rs of college or technical school/military training in computer maintenance and repair or equivalent experience. • Experience with desktop operating systems, including Mac OS and MS Windows. • Experience working in a team -oriented, collaborative environmen t. • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Must understand and maintain confidentiality of staff and student information. • Proven experience in IT support roles, preferably in an educational setting. • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues. • Knowledge of various operating systems (UNIX, DOS, Windows, Macintosh) Ability to work with multiple opera ting systems and network protocols • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills • Strong customer service perspective • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, managing multiple priorities effecti vely. • Stay up to date on technology and best practices through continuous professional development activities. Major Responsibilities and Duties: Installation • Install and upgrade computers and peripherals throughout the district. • Insta ll network cabling and network peripherals throughout the district. • Relocate computer hardware, peripherals, and equipment as needed. • Install and configure software as needed. • Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communications circuits and equipment. Technical Support • Provide responsive and effective technical assistance to end -users, including students, teachers, and staff, ensur ing the prompt resolution of hardware, software, and network issues. • Collaborate with team members to implement and improve IT solutions, ensuring optimal functionality and user satisfaction. • Offer highly complex technical and operational assistance, pro viding network support for the implementation and utilization of data processing, hardware, and software. • Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and constituents within the DeSoto ISD community network. • Liaise with external vendors to procure necessary equipment and services. • Act as a lead on advanced to mid -level assigned projects, providing accurate and timely updates to management. • Rapidly absorb new technical information and apply it effectively. • Research/develops stan dard practices for installing, implementing, and configuring client computing hardware/software within an enterprise -scale networked computing environment. System Administration • Administer and maintain Windows and/or macOS environments, ensuring the st ability, security, and scalability of the district's IT systems. • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights in strict adherence to district policies and compliance standards. • Monitor system performance, apply updates, and implement security mea sures to safeguard against potential vulnerabilities. • Support the overall integration of all system peripherals within a predefined environment and conduct routine system security checks. • Troubleshoot and solve complex telecommunications, data equipment, and computer -related problems, maintaining necessary security controls over software and hardware. Hardware and Software Management: • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of desktops, laptops, printers, and other hardware components. • Deploy, update, and manage software applications, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements. • Conduct regular audits of hardware and software inventories, implementing proactive measures for resource optimization. • Provides general support for classroom computing devices, multimedia projectors, Chromebooks, iPads, Apple TV's, document camera, SmartBoards, printers, etc., by troubleshooting issues, and helping users with basic instructions on the use of these devices. Network Support: • Assist in the setup and maintenance of network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points. • Collaborate with network administrators to troubleshoot connectivity issues, optimize network performanc e, and ensure a robust and reliable network environment . User Training and Documentation: • Develop and conduct training sessions for end -users on IT tools, applications, and best practices, fostering a culture of tech -savvy users. • Create and update compr ehensive documentation for IT processes, procedures, and user guides, facilitating knowledge transfer and ensuring operational continuity. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to convey technical information to non -technical users. Collaboration: • Work closely with other IT team members, teachers, and administrators to understand technology needs, proactively address challenges, and provide effective solutions. • Collaborate with vendors to resolve hardware and soft ware issues, coordinate equipment repairs, and stay abreast of the latest industry trends. • Works cooperatively with students, parents, staff and community members to project a positive, service -oriented demeanor. Compliance and Security: • Ensure rigorous adherence to district IT policies and procedures, advocating for and implementing best practices in cybersecurity. • Implement and enforce robust security measures to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive data, staying ahead of potential threats. • Perform day -to-day duties and responsibilities with a high level of customer service, adhering to established policies and procedures. • Maintains professional competence through participation in District provided in -service activities and/or self -selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities. Other • Address and resolve after -hours emergencies, demonstrating a pro mpt and effective response to unforeseen technical issues. This involves remaining available and responsive outside regular working hours to ensure the continued stability and security of the technology infrastructure, minimizing potential disruptions to t he organization's operations. • Contribute to refining the district's Acceptable Use Policy, providing insights, suggesting modifications, and recommending updates to align with evolving technological landscapes and address emerging challenges. • Stay inform ed about the latest trends and risks in technology usage to ensure the policy reflects current best practices. • May assist with board meetings, sporting events, and district activities. • Other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Equipment specific to job requirements: hand tools and tes t instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations as well as personal computers and peripherals, including modems and printers Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress.
