System Safety Engineer

PGS Worldwide is seeking System Safety Engineers in Tucson, Arizona for a one-year onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. These positions will support the development and execution of MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs for complex defense systems. Engineers will perform hazard analysis, safety requirements development, design assessments, technical reviews, and coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams, customers, and government approval authorities.

Required Skills

• Experience supporting system safety, product safety, systems engineering, or related engineering activities.
• Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E system safety requirements and processes.
• Experience performing or supporting system safety analyses.
• Ability to review engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings, and schematics for safety considerations.
• Ability to assess fault tolerance, latent hazards, and compliance with safety requirements.
• Experience interpreting system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
• Ability to develop or evaluate clear, testable safety requirements.
• Experience preparing technical reports, safety analyses, or engineering documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Ability to interface with customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors, and other technical stakeholders.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
• Candidates may start uncleared.

• Experience developing or implementing MIL-STD-882E compliant System Safety Programs.
• Experience with MIL-STD-882 task series 100, 200, 300, and 400.
• Experience preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs.
• Experience supporting safety approval processes and technical reviews.
• Experience working with systems, software, firmware, electrical, hardware, and test engineering organizations.
• Experience with system test, tactical operations, or maintenance procedures.
• Experience managing System Safety Working Groups.
• Experience coordinating with government approval authorities.
• Technical leadership or mentoring experience.
• Experience monitoring technical execution or leading portions of a system safety program.

What You'll Do

• Develop, implement, and support MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety activities.
• Perform hazard analyses, safety planning, design analyses, evaluations, and verification activities.
• Analyze engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings, and schematics for potential hazards.
• Evaluate designs for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety-requirement compliance.
• Develop and assess system safety requirements.
• Work across integrated product teams to eliminate hazards or establish effective controls.
• Coordinate with customers and engineering organizations to clarify and allocate safety requirements.
• Support technical reviews and safety approval activities.
• Prepare internal and customer-facing system safety reports and presentations.
• Collaborate with program management and government approval authorities throughout the product lifecycle.
• Interface with systems, software, firmware, electrical, hardware, and test engineering teams.
• Senior and principal-level engineers may lead working groups, oversee technical execution, and mentor junior engineers.

Work Schedule / Shift

• Full-time onsite in Tucson, Arizona.
• First shift.
• 40 hours per week.
