System Safety Engineer MIL-STD-882E

PGS Worldwide is seeking System Safety Engineers MIL-STD-882E in Tewksbury, Massachusetts for a one-year onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. These positions will support the development and execution of system safety programs for complex defense systems. Engineers will perform hazard analyses, safety requirements development, design assessments, technical reviews, and coordination across multidisciplinary engineering teams and customer organizations. The work may also support facilities in Woburn or Marlborough, Massachusetts.

Required Skills

• Experience supporting system safety, product safety, systems engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E system safety requirements and processes.
• Experience performing or supporting system safety analyses.
• Ability to review engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings, and schematics for safety considerations.
• Ability to assess fault tolerance, latent hazards, and compliance with system safety requirements.
• Experience interpreting system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
• Ability to develop or evaluate clear, testable safety requirements.
• Experience preparing technical reports, engineering analyses, or safety documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across systems, software, firmware, electrical, hardware, and test engineering disciplines.
• Ability to interface with customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
• Candidates may start uncleared.

• Experience developing or implementing MIL-STD-882E compliant System Safety Programs.
• Experience with MIL-STD-882 task series 100, 200, 300, and 400.
• Experience performing hazard and design analyses.
• Experience preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs.
• Experience supporting technical reviews and formal safety approval activities.
• Experience working with system test, tactical operations, or maintenance procedures.
• Experience managing System Safety Working Groups.
• Experience coordinating with government approval authorities.
• Technical leadership or mentoring experience.
• Experience overseeing technical execution of system safety activities.

What You'll Do

• Develop, implement, and support MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
• Perform system safety planning, hazard analyses, design analyses, evaluations, and verification activities.
• Analyze engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings, and schematics for potential hazards.
• Evaluate systems for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety-requirement compliance.
• Develop and assess concise, testable system safety requirements.
• Work across integrated product teams to eliminate hazards or establish effective controls.
• Coordinate with engineering teams and customer safety representatives to clarify and allocate safety requirements.
• Support technical reviews and safety approval activities.
• Prepare internal and customer-facing reports, assessments, and safety presentations.
• Collaborate with program management and government approval authorities throughout the product lifecycle.
• Interface with systems, software, firmware, electrical, hardware, and test engineering teams.
• Senior and principal-level engineers may lead working groups, oversee technical execution, and mentor junior engineers.

Work Schedule / Shift

• Full-time onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
• First shift.
• Position may also support Woburn or Marlborough, Massachusetts locations.

Pay

• $81.51 $100.87 per hour.
