System Integration Lab Design Engineer

PGS Worldwide is seeking a System Integration Lab Design Engineer in Stratford, CT for a 15-month onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The System Integration Lab Design Engineer will support the design, development, integration, and verification of high-fidelity hardware-in-the-loop and closed-loop test facilities. This role is focused on test-bed and laboratory design, hardware integration, facility infrastructure planning, technical documentation, and equipment logistics rather than electrical test execution.

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree with 4–8 years of relevant experience, or master’s degree with 2–6 years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing test facilities that support hardware-in-the-loop and closed-loop testing.
• Experience with test-bed design and laboratory system integration.
• Experience integrating hardware within engineering test laboratories.
• Strong understanding of signal conditioning, power distribution, and data-acquisition systems.
• Experience planning laboratory infrastructure, including power distribution, network cabling, shielding, and cooling.
• Proficiency with real-time simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or NI VeriStand.
• Ability to create detailed schematics and system block diagrams.
• Experience using Microsoft Visio, Mentor Graphics, Zuken, Siemens NX, or 3DX.
• Experience managing interface-control documents.
• Experience coordinating wiring, power, data, and subsystem connections.
• Experience ordering, receiving, tracking, and maintaining equipment or laboratory inventory.
• Ability to produce engineering procedures, test results, schematics, and configuration-controlled documentation.
• Strong communication, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, DO-160, MIL-STD-810, or ARP4754.
• Aerospace system-integration laboratory experience.
• Experience supporting flight controls, autonomy, avionics, or electrical-system development.
• Capital-equipment procurement experience.
• Experience supporting facility modification projects.
• Experience developing laboratory metrics, dashboards, or status reports.
• Knowledge of continuous-improvement methods for engineering laboratories.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, integrate, and verify HWIL and closed-loop test facilities.
• Create test-bed architectures, schematics, and system block diagrams.
• Receive, stage, and integrate hardware from subsystem engineering teams.
• Coordinate laboratory wiring, power, data, and interface connections.
• Manage interface-control documentation and laboratory configurations.
• Plan facility infrastructure involving power, networking, shielding, and cooling.
• Support procurement and installation of capital equipment.
• Order, receive, track, and maintain parts, equipment, and consumable materials.
• Coordinate with vendors and internal supply-chain teams.
• Track laboratory risks, issues, and proposed mitigation actions.
• Capture performance metrics and prepare status reports.
• Develop procedures, work instructions, test results, and lessons-learned documentation.
• Identify process improvements that increase laboratory productivity and data quality.
• Participate in technical interchange meetings and support customer deliverables.

Pay

• $50.00–$75.00 per hour
