Geiger’s Systems Administrator helps maintain the technology that keeps our ready-mix operations connected, secure, and running effectively. Working onsite at our company headquarters in Kansas City, KS, this position partners closely with the Director of Information Technology and third-party technology partners to install, administer, troubleshoot, repair, and improve the systems and tools used throughout the organization.
This is a hands-on role with responsibilities spanning employee devices, Microsoft cloud services, servers, networks, business applications, security, backups, and technical support. Success in this role requires strong troubleshooting skills and learning agility, sound judgment, attention to detail, a commitment to security, and the ability to communicate clearly with employees, leaders, vendors, and technical partners.
Salary $80000+ based on experience. Geiger Ready-Mix does not currently sponsor employment visas for this position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Install, configure, administer, troubleshoot, and maintain company computers, mobile devices, operating systems, software, and approved business applications.
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support for complex employee, endpoint, server, network, cloud, and application issues.
- Administer Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, user licensing, permissions, mail flow, and service settings.
- Support Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, cloud resources, enterprise applications, user accounts, groups, devices, and access permissions.
- Manage user provisioning and deprovisioning, password resets, multifactor authentication, Conditional Access, role-based permissions, and privileged access controls.
- Maintain physical and virtual servers, storage resources, operating systems, and related infrastructure.
- Monitor system health, performance, capacity, availability, resource usage, and security settings.
- Perform routine system maintenance, patching, upgrades, and configuration changes.
- Support network connectivity and troubleshooting involving DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VPN access, firewalls, and wireless networks.
- Maintain device inventory, software license records, deployment standards, warranty information, and equipment lifecycle plans.
- Assist with endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, security monitoring, encryption, system hardening, and incident response.
- Administer backup systems, assist with recovery testing, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity documentation.
- Coordinate technical escalations, repairs, renewals, licensing, and support with vendors and third-party service providers.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, system diagrams, asset records, and change records.
- Use PowerShell or other automation tools to standardize routine work, reduce manual effort, and improve reliability.
- Identify practical opportunities to improve system security, availability, supportability, and operational efficiency.
Operational and Support Responsibilities
- Build productive working relationships with team members in office, plant, shop, and yard environments.
- Respond to technical issues with urgency while communicating clearly about business impact, priorities, status, and next steps.
- Coordinate with the Director of Information Technology and third-party partners when issues require specialized expertise or additional support.
- Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance or critical support when operational needs require it.
- Follow established incident, problem, and change-management practices to restore service and reduce repeat issues.
- Participate in relevant safety meetings and training and follow appropriate safety practices when working in office, plant, shop, and yard environments.
Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of certifications and relevant experience.
- Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or a comparable IT role.
- Experience supporting Windows endpoints, servers, business applications, user identities, permissions, and network connectivity.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, wireless networks, firewalls, virtualization, backups, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity practices, including multifactor authentication, access control, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, encryption, and least-privilege principles.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, including the ability to identify root causes, assess operational impact, and determine when an issue should be escalated.
- Strong organization and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow work through to completion.
- Clear, professional communication and a strong commitment to serving internal customers.
- Ability to work effectively with outside vendors, consultants, service providers, and technical support partners.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite and support planned maintenance or critical system needs outside normal business hours.
Preferred qualifications:
- Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, VMware, or other relevant technical certification.
- Experience with cloud administration, virtualization, backup platforms, security tools, or mobile-device management.
- Experience with endpoint management, software deployment, patching, asset management, and hardware troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with technology supporting ready-mix production, dispatch, fleet, quality, accounting, or other operational business functions.
Work Environment and Schedule
This is an onsite position based at Geiger’s company headquarters. The Systems Administrator will provide support for employees and technology located in office, ready-mix plant, shop, and yard environments.
Our ready-mix plants may operate 14 to 18 hours per day during peak season in response to customer demand. Because technology interruptions can affect production and customer service, the person in this role must understand operational priorities and be willing to assist with planned system changes, maintenance, or critical support outside normal operating hours. Occasional early-morning, evening, or weekend work may be required and will be planned in coordination with the Director of Information Technology and third-party partners.
