    Description

    Performs professional and technical systems administration duties supporting the information technology infrastructure of the Sheriff's Office. Maintains, monitors, troubleshoots, and secures servers, operating systems, applications, user accounts, storage, backups, endpoints, and related technology systems.

    Provides technical support and system administration to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient operation of Sheriff's Office technology. Works closely with County Information Technology and Sheriff's Office personnel to implement, maintain, and improve systems while ensuring compliance with applicable security requirements, County policies, Sheriff's Office policies, and law enforcement technology standards.

    Systems Administration

    • Install, configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers, operating systems, applications, databases, storage systems, and related infrastructure.
    • Administer and maintain Windows and other applicable server and workstation operating systems.
    • Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and resource utilization and take appropriate action to prevent or resolve system issues.
    • Manage system configurations, software installations, patches, upgrades, updates, and system changes.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, hardware, software, system dependencies, and administrative procedures.
    • Analyze system requirements and make recommendations regarding hardware, software, applications, and infrastructure improvements.
    • Assist with the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of new systems and technology solutions.
    • Coordinate system modifications and implementations with Sheriff's Office personnel, County Information Technology, vendors, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
    • Establish and maintain system standards and procedures to promote reliability, consistency, security, and operational efficiency.
    • Troubleshoot complex hardware, software, operating system, application, connectivity, and system performance issues.
    • Provide technical assistance and guidance to users and staff regarding system-related issues and technology resources.
    • Maintain system inventories and licensing information for assigned hardware and software.

    Identity, Access, and Security Administration

    • Create, modify, disable, and maintain user accounts and system access in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Administer user permissions, security groups, roles, and access rights using the principle of least privilege.
    • Assist with administration and maintenance of Active Directory, Microsoft 365, cloud services, and other identity and access management systems as assigned.
    • Monitor systems for unauthorized access, security vulnerabilities, unusual activity, and other potential security concerns.
    • Implement and maintain system security controls, including authentication, access controls, endpoint protection, patch management, and configuration standards.
    • Assist with investigating and documenting system and network security incidents and implementing corrective actions.
    • Maintain confidentiality and security of Sheriff's Office information, systems, records, and data.
    • Comply with applicable CJIS, State of Colorado, County, Sheriff's Office, and other information-security requirements applicable to assigned systems.

    Backup, Recovery, and Continuity

    • Administer, monitor, and maintain system backup and recovery processes for assigned systems.
    • Regularly verify backup integrity and identify and resolve backup failures or deficiencies.
    • Assist with system restoration and recovery following hardware failures, software failures, security incidents, outages, or other disruptions.
    • Develop, maintain, and document system recovery procedures and technical recovery requirements.
    • Participate in disaster recovery and continuity of operations planning and testing.
    • Maintain current documentation necessary to support system recovery and continuity of operations.

    Applications and Technology Support

    • Install, configure, maintain, and support Sheriff's Office applications and technology systems as assigned.
    • Coordinate with software vendors and County Information Technology regarding application installations, upgrades, integrations, licensing, and technical issues.
    • Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations regarding system improvements, upgrades, replacements, and emerging technology.
    • Assist with testing new hardware, software, applications, and system configurations prior to implementation.
    • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, security, functionality, and efficiency.
    • Assist with technology projects, system implementations, migrations, and upgrades.
    • Provide technical support for Sheriff's Office technology systems, including systems used in law enforcement, administration, communications, records, evidence, detention, and other operational areas as assigned.

    Network and Infrastructure Support

    • Monitor and troubleshoot connectivity and infrastructure issues affecting Sheriff's Office systems.
    • Coordinate with County Information Technology and other technical personnel regarding network, telecommunications, wireless, and infrastructure-related issues.
    • Assist with the configuration and maintenance of servers, switches, routers, wireless equipment, firewalls, and other infrastructure as assigned.
    • Identify and document system dependencies and potential impacts of infrastructure changes.
    • Assist with maintaining reliable connectivity between Sheriff's Office facilities, systems, applications, and users.
    • Escalate complex infrastructure issues to appropriate County personnel, vendors, or service providers when necessary.

    Documentation and Administration

    • Maintain accurate technical documentation, system diagrams, configuration records, procedures, inventories, licenses, and support information.
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for assigned systems.
    • Document system changes, incidents, outages, resolutions, and maintenance activities.
    • Maintain appropriate records related to system access, security, backups, configurations, and technology assets.
    • Assist with technology planning, budgeting, procurement specifications, and replacement schedules for assigned systems.
    • Participate in technology-related meetings, projects, training, and professional development activities.
    • Maintain current knowledge of applicable technologies, security practices, industry standards, and law enforcement technology requirements.

    Other Duties

    • Respond to system emergencies and critical technology issues as required.
    • Provide after-hours technical support or participate in on-call responsibilities when assigned.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
