SysOps Network Engineer

The Systems Operations team manages the organization's technology infrastructure, including systems, networks, telecommunications, security, and end-user technology services. Under the supervision of the Director of Systems Operations, this Systems Operations Network Engineer assists in all aspects of Systems Management, Network Management and Telephony Management. This role provides analytical and systematic support to the Director of Systems Operations and maintains the computing environment by identifying infrastructure requirements, installing upgrades and monitoring day-to-day operations, performance, availability and security of infrastructure systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Define infrastructure specifications by working with users and assessing workflow, access, information, and security requirements.
• Maintain network and system performance, including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency. Select, install, configure, and test equipment and connections.
• Monitor infrastructure security, troubleshoot issues, review firewall access control lists and intrusion detection and prevention reports, and escalate issues to vendors when needed.
• Evaluate, test, and implement infrastructure upgrades in coordination with vendors.
• Support assigned projects and respond to on-call needs and critical emergencies.
• Protect confidential information and use discretion when discussing sensitive matters.
• Maintain technical knowledge through training, professional publications, lab work, or professional organizations.

Basic Qualifications

• At least four years of experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting networks or systems in a corporate environment.

• Thorough knowledge of at least one of the following:

• Network administration: Network equipment and technologies such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, network management and diagnostic tools, cloud networking, automation, and network security.

• Systems administration: Servers, storage and SAN technologies, virtualization, server operating systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, backups, cloud infrastructure, automation, and systems security.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to nontechnical audiences.

• Ability to work collaboratively and handle confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Accredited certification in network or systems administration.
• Experience with relevant platforms and tools such as Cisco, HPE, VMware, Hyper-V, Red Hat, Veeam, Microsoft 365, or AWS.
