Swim Instructor

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Schweitzer Wellbeing Aquatics Center team as a Swim Instructor in Pullman, WA. In this role, you will provide engaging swim instruction to participants of all ages and skill levels, promote water safety, track swimmer progress, and help create a positive, safe, and welcoming aquatic environment for our community.

A typical day as a Swim Instructor might include:

• Teach swim-lesson curriculum to patrons
• Provide high-quality customer service, including responding to class inquiries and needs and professionally managing complaints
• Plan and prepare lesson content based on participant needs and program standards
• Ensure participant safety and maintain a positive learning environment
• Track and communicate progress to parents and participants
• Follow and enforce facility safety standards, policies and procedures
• Other duties as assigned

This job might be for you if:

• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
• Ability to break down each stroke into individual components and effectively teach those components to swimmers of varying skill levels
• Demonstrated skills in customer service, problem-solving, communication, and computer knowledge
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

It's a plus if you have:

• Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI), or Basic Swim Instructor (BSI) Certification
• 1-year proven swim instruction and/or water fitness
• Basic knowledge of water safety principles and ability to incorporate safety instruction into lessons

Physical Requirements:

• Strong swimming skills and ability to demonstrate strokes
• Regularly required to talk or hear
• Occasionally move or lift up to 50lbs
• Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, kneel, and/or twist
• Frequently works in and around chlorinated water

Pay Range Data

We anticipate starting our Swim Instructor at $20.00/hour.
