    Overview

    The Club at Prairie Stone is seeking a qualified individual to work as a part-time Swim Instructor. This position will provide safe, engaging, and effective swimming instruction to children and adults of varying ages and skill levels. The Swim Instructor will lead swim lessons, promote water safety, provide excellent customer service, and maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming aquatic environment.

    The Swim Instructor will be responsible for preparing and conducting swim lessons according to established Hoffman Estates Park District guidelines and lesson plans. The instructor will evaluate participant skills, provide appropriate instruction and feedback, and communicate effectively with participants and parents/guardians regarding progress and safety.

    Compensation Structure:

    • $14.50 per 30-minute group swim class
    • $17.00 per 30-minute private swim class

    Essential Job Duties

    Aquatics Instruction

    • Plan and conduct safe, organized, and age-appropriate swimming lessons.
    • Teach participants proper swimming techniques, water safety skills, and basic aquatic safety.
    • Evaluate participant abilities and adjust instruction to meet individual needs and skill levels.
    • Provide positive, constructive feedback to participants to encourage skill development and confidence in the water.
    • Follow established swim lesson curriculum, policies, and procedures.
    • Maintain appropriate supervision of all participants throughout swim lessons.
    • Demonstrate swimming skills and techniques when appropriate.
    • Communicate participant progress and areas for improvement to parents/guardians when applicable.
    • Maintain accurate attendance and lesson records.
    • Arrive prepared and on time for all assigned lessons.

    Customer Service

    • Treat every customer with courtesy, respect, and friendliness.
    • Provide participants and families with accurate information regarding swim lessons, aquatic programs, facility policies, and Park District offerings.
    • Answer questions and address customer concerns in a professional and appropriate manner.
    • Promote a positive and welcoming environment for participants of all ages and abilities.
    • Work cooperatively with other instructors, lifeguards, and Park District staff.
    • Follow all facility rules and procedures and appropriately communicate those rules to participants.
    • Assist with maintaining an organized, clean, and safe aquatic environment.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Safety and Facility Operations

    • Maintain constant visual supervision of assigned participants while teaching.
    • Follow all aquatic safety policies and emergency procedures.
    • Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, incidents, or equipment concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
    • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the pool deck and instructional areas.
    • Properly use and care for aquatic equipment and supplies.
    • Follow all Hoffman Estates Park District safety, health, and loss-control policies.
    • Assist with emergency procedures as directed by supervisory or aquatic staff.

    Days/Hours of Work

    • This is a part-time, non-exempt position.
    • Approximately 5-10 hours per week, with schedules based on program needs and instructor availability.
    • Swim lessons may be scheduled during weekday afternoons/evenings and weekends. Availability for at least one weekend day may be required.
    • The work week shall be designated by the Aquatics Manager as necessary to provide proper instruction and support to program participants.

    Position Requirements

    • High school education or further education preferred.
    • Previous swimming, teaching, childcare, recreation, or customer service experience helpful but not necessary.
    • Strong swimming ability and comfort working in and around a swimming pool.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with children, adults, parents/guardians, and coworkers.
    • Ability to provide instruction in a positive, patient, and encouraging manner.
    • Ability to appropriately manage groups of participants and maintain a safe learning environment.
    • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to emergency situations.
    • Must be able to read, write, and speak in English.
    • Must be at least 16 years of age.
    • Current CPR/AED certification preferred or ability to obtain certification within 60 days.
    • Lifeguard certification preferred where required by assigned duties.
    • Must successfully complete any required Hoffman Estates Park District aquatic training.

    • Ability to provide excellent customer service to participants and families.

    Physical Requirements

    • Required to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, and actively demonstrate swimming strokes and water safety skills.
    • Must be able to spend extended periods in warm, humid indoor pool environments and water.
    • Specific vision and hearing abilities required to monitor large groups of swimmers in an aquatic setting.
    • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

    Working Conditions

    • Activities will be performed primarily indoors in a pool environment.
    • Potential exposure to pool treatment chemicals, high humidity, and loud aquatic environments.

    Safety, Health and Loss Control

    • Support, promote, and make recommendations regarding all safety, health, and loss control policies as adopted by the Park District.
