Working Hours and/or Working Conditions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Some heavy lifting may be required, including loads up to 30 lbs WORK HOURS: Will be scheduled by the department, based on faculty need and students schedule Weekly hours are up to 25 hours, not to exceed 28 hours per week Position is active for 42 weeks per year Must be willing to work outside normal business hours on occasion, i.e., high school tours and recruitment events.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Competency in surgical instrumentation and equipment Must be able to build and assemble various types of surgical instrument specialty trays Working knowledge of washers, sanitizers/disinfectors and steam sterilizers Proficient in Microsoft Office Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times Maintain professional interaction with faculty, staff, and students at all times Attention to organization and detail
Supervision
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Associate Dean, Health and Human Services; takes direction from the Surgical Technology Program Coordinator. SUPERVISION GIVEN: None
Job Function
Provide support for the full- and part-time faculty in support of the Central
Processing Distribution Technician and Surgical Technology Programs
Job Responsibilities
Set up lab classes with appropriate equipment and supplies
Set up instrument exams
Assist in organizing and maintaining various equipment and specialty carts
Develop and maintain instrument count sheets and sets
Perform inventory of supplies and equipment
Place orders for supplies at onset of semesters and as needed based on inventory
Unpack supplies and equipment and verify accurate pricing and quantities received; contact vendor(s) with discrepancy issues
Store supplies and equipment
Provide open labs for students to practice skills and achieve basic competencies
Provide support and assistance to students in non-evaluative fashion
Collaborate with HHS lab supervisor regarding program needs
Participate in student orientations advisory committee meetings.
Manage Perkins Grant equipment requests:
Obtain quotes from vendors
Compile spreadsheet listing requested equipment, quantity and prices of each for presentation to the Surgical Technology Advisory Committee for approval.
Collaborate with HHS lab supervisor to order approved equipment
Assist with recruitment activities, i.e., high school tours and career fairs
Perform other duties as assigned
Education
Associate degree with Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or applicant must agree to achieve certification of Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within 6 months of employment OR Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
Qualifications
Three years of experience in a sterile processing department and/or operating room.
