The Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. This role ensures that the operating room environment is sterile, equipment is prepared, and procedures run efficiently while prioritizing patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile drapes
  • Ensure all instruments and supplies are properly sterilized and ready for procedures
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and anticipating needs
  • Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures
  • Perform surgical counts (sponges, instruments, needles) before, during, and after procedures
  • Handle specimens correctly for laboratory analysis
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping
  • Clean and restock the operating room after procedures
  • Monitor equipment functionality and report any issues
  • Adhere to infection control and safety standards in compliance with HIPAA and facility protocols

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Certification preferred (e.g., Certified Surgical Technologist - CST)
  • Previous operating room experience preferred
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques
