Surgical Technician Cardiovascular Surgery Location: Portland, OR Pay Rate: $67,080 – $81,640 per year
Position Overview A large, integrated healthcare system is seeking a skilled Surgical Technician to support a high-volume cardiovascular surgery program. The ideal candidate brings solid scrub experience in open-heart and vascular cases and thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity OR environment. This is a full-time opportunity within a well-resourced cardiovascular surgical team that values technical excellence, precision, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Scrub for cardiovascular surgical procedures including open-heart, vascular, and thoracic cases
Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instrument trays, and surgical supplies prior to each procedure
Pass instruments and anticipate surgeon needs throughout complex cardiovascular operations
Perform accurate sponge, sharps, and instrument counts in coordination with the circulating RN
Operate and assist with cardiovascular surgical equipment including bypass circuits, perfusion equipment, and vascular clamps
Maintain sterile technique throughout all procedural phases and immediately address any breaks in sterility
Assist with patient positioning and draping in compliance with surgical and safety protocols
Participate in on-call rotation as required for emergency cardiovascular surgical coverage
Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedure records and supply usage
Support orientation and training of new surgical technicians and students as directed
Requirements
Surgical Technologist certification (CST) from NBSTSA or NCCT preferred
Minimum of 2 years of cardiovascular OR scrub experience in an acute-care hospital setting
Proficiency with cardiovascular surgical instrumentation, equipment, and sterile technique
Ability to function at a high level in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary surgical team
Willingness to participate in on-call rotation as required
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a related field is preferred
