Job Summary and Qualifications

TheCertifiedSurgical Technologistassistssurgeons,anesthetistand registered nurses in the delivery of perioperative care to patients. Under the direction of the registered nurse, acts as a primary scrub person handling surgical instruments, equipment and supplies necessary during a procedure. 

Essential Functions:

- Provide technical assistance during surgical procedures. 
- Prepare patients and maintain the operating room environment. 
- Manage equipment and supplies. 
- Oversee surgical technician assignments and provide guidance. 
- Ensure adherence to OR standards and regulations. 
-Identifyand act on process improvement opportunities. 
- Resolve concerns and act as a troubleshooter. 
- Provide performance documentation to supervisor/manager. 
- Assume department leadership inabsenceof supervisor. 
-Demonstratessound knowledge of surgical techniques, both routine and specialized. 
- Applies knowledge to improve skills inassistingthe surgeon and organizing work efficiently. 
-Demonstratescompetency with aseptictechniqueduring surgery. 
- Uses all equipment and supplies necessary for surgical procedures. 
- Explores new surgical procedures and subjects relating to the operating room and surgicalpatient. 
- Differentiates sterilization methods for special equipment and instruments. 
- Retracts, suctions, irrigates,appliespressure, andassistsin homeostasis under the direction of the surgeon. 
- Performsco-circulating role withappropriate credentialing. 
- Restocks rooms, returns equipment/supplies, and cleans work areas. 
- Provides patient care in OR by performing scrubrole. 
-Assistsin the circulating role as needed. 
- Collaborates with SPD tomaintaininstruments and specialty trays. 
- Meets required inventory and working orders. 
- Reviews the surgical schedule and service line shift report daily to ensure resources are available for surgical procedures. 
- Adheres to and advocates accepted practices and protocols of OR job performance standards and CMS/JACHO regulations. 
- Seeks ways to eliminate errors, reduce turnaround time, maintain work-flow and to improve customer service. 
- Performs all other duties as assigned. 

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • (CST) Certified Surgical Technologist
  • High School Graduate / GED
  • 1+ years of experience preferred
