Job Summary/Company:
SPARKS Group is seeking an experienced Surgical Scheduler / Patient Access Coordinator to support a busy pediatric specialty practice. This role is responsible for coordinating clinic visits, surgical procedures, insurance verification, prior authorizations, and patient scheduling activities while ensuring an exceptional experience for patients and families. The ideal candidate will have strong surgical scheduling experience, excellent organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of healthcare insurance processes.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate clinic visits and surgical procedures for pediatric patients.
  • Schedule procedures for operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, and affiliated hospitals or surgical facilities.
  • Obtain physician and facility pre-certifications and prior authorizations.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, copays, deductibles, and all required documentation before procedures.
  • Coordinate appointments, diagnostic testing, anesthesia consultations, and surgical services to ensure a seamless patient experience.
  • Maintain accurate patient registration, demographic, insurance, and guardianship records.
  • Communicate with parents, guardians, physicians, and internal departments regarding scheduling requirements, authorizations, and procedure preparation.
  • Coordinate vendor services and specialized equipment required for surgical procedures.
  • Monitor case readiness and ensure all documentation is completed before the scheduled surgery date.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment while delivering exceptional customer service to patients and families.

Qualifications/Background Profile:

 

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in patient registration, medical scheduling, insurance verification, or surgical scheduling within a healthcare environment.
  • Surgical scheduling experience required.
  • Experience with insurance authorization, pre-certification, and eligibility verification required.
  • Experience coordinating multiple providers, appointments, and procedures in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Cerner or a comparable EMR scheduling system.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance verification procedures.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Understanding of healthcare insurance, referrals, pre-certifications, authorizations, and billing processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Pay Range: Hourly $25.00 to $26.00
