Surgical Affiliates Management Group (SAMGI) is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to support both our Vascular Surgery and Trauma/Acute Care Surgery (ACS) programs in Bakersfield, California.<\/span>

This unique position offers the opportunity to work across two complementary surgical services, providing a diverse mix of inpatient care, operating room support, outpatient vascular clinic, trauma and acute care surgery coverage, and postoperative follow-up.<\/span>

The Opportunity<\/span>

<\/p>

Join an experienced surgical team at a Level II Trauma Center and teaching hospital, supporting both the Vascular Surgery and Trauma/ACS programs.<\/span>

<\/p>

Your responsibilities will be divided between the two services based on daily clinical and program needs. This is an excellent opportunity for an APP who enjoys variety, wants to maintain a broad surgical skill set, and is comfortable working across inpatient, operative, emergency, and outpatient settings.<\/span>

On the Vascular Surgery service, you'll support open and endovascular procedures, inpatient consultations, outpatient vascular clinic, and perioperative care.<\/span>

<\/p>

On the Trauma/ACS service, you'll assist with the evaluation and management of trauma and acute surgical patients, inpatient rounding, consultations, perioperative management, and coordination with the multidisciplinary trauma team.<\/span>

  • Full-time position<\/span>

  • 10-hour shifts, typically 7:00 AM-5:00 PM<\/span>

  • Primarily weekday coverage<\/span>

  • Responsibilities shared across Vascular Surgery and Trauma/ACS<\/span>

  • Schedule structured around the clinical needs of both programs<\/span>

What You'll Do<\/span>

<\/p>

Vascular Surgery<\/span>

<\/p>

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient care for vascular surgery patients<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Assist vascular surgeons with open and endovascular procedures<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Participate in inpatient rounds and vascular surgery consultations<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Support cases in the operating room and outpatient surgery center<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Provide care in a fully equipped outpatient vascular clinic<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Manage patients with peripheral arterial disease, varicose veins, dialysis access, carotid disease, and other vascular conditions<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Participate in elective and postoperative vascular clinics<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Coordinate perioperative and postoperative patient care<\/span>

<\/li><\/ul>

Trauma / Acute Care Surgery<\/span>

<\/p>

  • Evaluate and manage trauma and acute care surgery patients in the emergency department and inpatient setting<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Participate in daily inpatient rounds<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Assist with surgical consultations and ongoing patient management<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Support trauma and acute care surgeons with clinical evaluations and treatment plans<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice and hospital privileges<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Coordinate care with emergency medicine, critical care, nursing, and specialty teams<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Support discharge planning and follow-up care<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Respond to changes in patient condition and communicate effectively with the surgical team<\/span>

<\/li><\/ul>

What You Bring to the Team<\/span>

<\/p>

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Current PA-C certification or appropriate national NP certification<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Current or eligible California PA or NP license<\/span>

<\/li>

  • 1-2 years of vascular surgery, trauma, acute care surgery, general surgery, critical care, or comparable surgical experience strongly preferred<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Operating room and inpatient surgical experience preferred<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Ability to transition effectively between two surgical services<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity hospital environment<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Strong collaborative and patient-centered approach<\/span>

<\/li>

  • Eligible for hospital credentialing and privileges<\/span>
