Position Overview: Our client is seeking a Surgical Medical Assistant to coordinate and manage scheduling for interventional pain management and vein procedures. This role ensures efficient procedure scheduling, patient communication, and operational support to optimize clinical workflows. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and experienced in medical scheduling within surgical or specialty care settings.
Responsibilities of the Surgical Medical Assistant:- Schedule office and hospital-based pain management procedures.
- Coordinate procedure dates with physicians, facilities, anesthesia providers, and patients.
- Maintain physician procedural schedules while maximizing efficiency.
- Reschedule procedures as necessary due to insurance, medical clearance, or patient-related issues.
- Ensure all scheduling documentation is completed accurately within the EMR.
- Contact patients to confirm scheduled procedures.
- Review and confirm arrival times, procedure instructions, fasting requirements, transportation arrangements, and medication restrictions.
- Document all patient communications within the medical record.
- Schedule consultations and procedures, verify patient eligibility, and coordinate follow-up care.
- Manage operational and scheduling aspects of the vein program, a specialized service line requiring dedicated coordination.
Required Experience/Skills for the Surgical Medical Assistant:- Knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorization, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and medical documentation requirements.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Surgical Medical Assistant:- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems for scheduling and documentation.
- Minimum 2 years of medical scheduling experience is preferred.
- Interventional pain management, orthopedic, neurosurgical, or surgical specialty experience is preferred
Education Requirements:- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Medical assistant certification or relevant healthcare training is preferred.
