This position is in the Wyoming Army National Guards, Deputy Chief of Logistics Directorate (DCSLOG), Combined Support Maintenance Shop. The purpose is to serve as a working leader of three or more Surface Maintenance Mechanics. Performs mechanic duties such as maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of complex combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment having complicated mechanical and non-mechanical systems with a variety of interconnected systems. Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees.

  1. Assigns work orders to specific crew members and selects workers for various jobs based on knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  2. Ensures that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy.

  3. Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles.

  4. Troubleshoots equipment with a variety of the mechanically complex major systems and diagnoses difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks, uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges and computer diagnostic tools.

  5. Removes and disassembles engines and complex major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems.

This is NOT an all-inclusive list of duties.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

Must currently be permanent or indefinite technician in the WY ARNG.

Must submit IPPS-A STP and SF-50 with application.

Must possess or be able to obtain/maintain a T3/SECRET security clearance.

May be required to successfully complete a two-year trial period.

Relocation Incentive MAY BE authorized, if eligible. Subject to funding and TAG approval.

PCS costs are not authorized in lieu of incentives. Must be willing to relocate at own expense.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS & NOTES:

Technicians are paid through Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer (DD/EFT).

Military Technicians are ineligible for military enlistment, retention, student loan repayment bonuses, and other education incentives. Acceptance of a Technician position over 180 days will result in suspension or termination of these military incentives. Military Technicians in the excepted service will wear the appropriate uniform while performing as a technician.

  1. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Work is covered by the 5800-job family which includes occupations involved in repairing, adjusting, and maintaining self-propelled transportation and other mobile equipment (except aircraft), including any special purpose features with which they may be equipped.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and can use common tools and equipment in the line of work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Must possess experience or training leading to an extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Extensive knowledge of state of the art electrical, electronic, complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of major mechanical systems. Extensive knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls. Skill and knowledge to develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines (such as modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed); improvise modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions; and design modifications to meet special test requirements or other special needs.

In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.

NOTE: Minimum Requirements and Specialized Experience will be used to determine qualifications for the announced position. The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world.
