Step into the role
When you arrive on the floor, you’ll pick up a traveler and blueprint, power up your deburring station, and set out the right tools for the job—hand deburring tools, specialty abrasives, and dedicated deburring machines. You’ll study the print, confirm critical edges and radii, and decide the most efficient method to remove burrs without compromising the part. Throughout the shift, you’ll verify dimensions with calipers and micrometers, log your checks, and collaborate with teammates to keep production moving safely and smoothly.
Key responsibilities
- Deburr and finish machined components using both dedicated machines and hand tools to achieve smooth, safe edges.
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints to determine exact edge breaks, chamfers, radii, and finish requirements.
- Apply shop math to confirm measurements and tolerances during the finishing process.
- Use precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify specifications and tolerances are met.
- Follow and promote safety standards and protocols across all production tasks.
- Inspect completed parts to ensure burr removal is complete and surfaces remain undamaged.
- Keep your workstation clean, organized, and tools properly maintained.
Skills and experience you bring
- Hands-on experience operating deburring machinery and performing manual finishing.
- Comfort with shop math for quick, accurate calculations.
- Proficiency using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, and related inspection instruments).
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of safety practices in manufacturing or production environments.
- Excellent dexterity and focus when working with small parts.
- Clear communication and teamwork skills suited to a fast-paced setting.
