Supplier Quality Representative (SQR) – Structural Steel
Schertz/San Antonio, TX (78154) Monday–Friday | 40 Hours per Week Contract – Approximately 3–6 Months
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Supplier Quality Representative (SQR) to perform onsite quality surveillance and inspections at a structural steel fabrication facility. This position will focus on structural steel fabrication, welding, coatings, quality documentation, and ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform quality surveillance and inspections of structural steel fabrication, welding, fit-up, and dimensional accuracy.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, purchase orders, and inspection and test plans (ITPs).
- Monitor welding procedures, welder qualifications, and fabrication activities.
- Inspect surface preparation, blasting, painting, and protective coatings.
- Witness applicable inspections and nondestructive testing (NDT/NDE).
- Review Material Test Reports (MTRs), inspection records, and supplier quality documentation.
- Identify, document, and report nonconformances and verify corrective actions.
- Conduct final inspections to ensure materials meet project and quality requirements.
- Prepare daily surveillance reports and communicate findings with supplier and project personnel.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 4–5+ years of QA/QC, supplier quality, or fabrication shop inspection experience preferred.
- Strong experience with structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, and coatings.
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1, applicable ASTM standards, and AMPP/SSPC coating standards.
- Experience reviewing welding procedures (WPS/PQR), inspection test plans, and material certifications.
- Knowledge of NDT/NDE methods and quality inspection procedures.
- Strong communication, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently in an industrial fabrication environment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet background and facility access requirements.
Preferred Certifications
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Strongly Preferred
- ASNT Level II (NDT)
- AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector
- Other relevant structural steel or quality inspection certifications
