Supplier Quality Engineer

AvtechTyee is searching for a Supplier Quality Engineer with solid project management experience and a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude to help position our company for new growth and improved social responsibility.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Drive supplier quality performance for new product introduction and sustaining production
  • Ensure supplier compliance with internal, contractual, customer, and regulatory requirements
  • Establish and lead scheduled supplier quality audits to verify QMS effectiveness
  • Build and maintain effective professional relationships with suppliers
  • Promote supplier quality improvement initiatives and corrective action effectiveness
  • Support procurement with Approved Supplier List (ASL) maintenance, supplier qualification, and re-qualification
  • Participate in supplier readiness reviews for new programs
  • Review and approve supplier change requests (process, material, tooling, location, sub-tier)
  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, flow-downs, and purchase order requirements
  • Perform and evaluate supplier First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102
  • Validate supplier manufacturing capability through audits, desk reviews, and on-site process walks
  • Proactively identify and communicate risks, gaps, and nonconformances prior to release
  • Assess internal impact of supplier issues through stock and WIP review
  • Manage supplier-related nonconformances through the Material Review Board (MRB) to prevent production or delivery impact
  • Establish and monitor testing, acceptance criteria, and receiving inspection plans to ensure only conforming product is released
  • Ensure supplier compliance with special process requirements (e.g., heat treat, NDT, plating)
  • Lead root cause and corrective action investigations with suppliers using 8D, DMAIC, or equivalent methodologies and verify effectiveness
  • Monitor, analyze, and report supplier performance metrics (e.g., nonconformances, responsiveness, closure timeliness)
  • Use performance metrics to support scorecard activities with procurement
  • Leverage supplier performance metrics to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with procurement on supplier risk management and mitigation strategies
  • Communicate supplier quality concerns using objective evidence and data-driven analysis
  • Interface with regulatory bodies (e.g., FAA, DCMA) as required to support quality interpretations

And you will have

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferred fields: Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Aerospace) or related technical degree + relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in quality engineering or supplier quality
  • Experience in a highly regulated or quality-driven environment
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with:
  • Root cause analysis & corrective action: 8D, RCCA, CAPA
  • Supplier quality processes: Supplier audits, supplier corrective actions (SCARs)
  • Quality systems: ISO 9001 required, AS9100 strongly preferred
  • Engineering drawings & specifications
  • Demonstrated experience using data to drive decisions
  • Working knowledge of: SPC (Statistical Process Control), Process capability (Cp/Cpk)
  • Strong proficiency in Excel or similar tools
  • Proven ability to:
  • Work cross-functionally (engineering, supply chain, operations)
  • Communicate issues and drive resolution with suppliers
  • Comfortable in a role that requires influence without authority

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization

The wage/salary range for this role is $95k - $125k, depending on education and experience.
