Job Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer leads on-site supplier interventions to resolve performance and quality issues, ensure uninterrupted production, and drive long-term supplier development. This role focuses on analyzing supplier performance, implementing process and quality system improvements, and coordinating cross-functional action plans while maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Visit key supplier sites to analyze performance issues and identify root causes related to quality, delivery, capacity, and process capability.
• Coordinate and drive improvement strategies at suppliers, including purchase order alignment, process enhancements, and quality system improvements.
• Expedite critical parts at critical suppliers to remove roadblocks and ensure zero disruption to the production line.
• Work with suppliers to establish clear recovery plans back to purchase order commitments through harmonized lines of balance and ensure daily follow-up.
• Align with internal stakeholders in Procurement, Quality, and Operations to prepare a clear mandate for each supplier intervention and ensure a smooth handover when actions are complete.
• Identify supplier improvement and risk mitigation opportunities at key supplier sites and manage these improvement initiatives from planning through execution.
• Drive execution of supplier performance improvement plans and collaborate with internal and external partners to close action items and sustain results.
• Create and support supplier development plans focused on improving quality, delivery performance, capacity, and supplier process capability.
• Provide regular, structured feedback to all relevant stakeholders on supplier support progress and status of action plans.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external groups, ensuring appropriate and timely escalation of issues when necessary.
• Conduct thorough on-site capacity and capability reviews at supplier locations and establish clear, detailed action plans to address identified gaps.
• Coordinate personal work travel plans, including making reservations, tracking follow-up, submitting expense claims, and performing related financial reviews.
• Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritize activities, and maintain momentum on supplier improvement initiatives.
• Apply strong analytical, planning, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to resolve complex supplier quality and performance challenges.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in supplier quality, quality assurance, quality engineering, or a closely related manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor"s degree in Administration, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or equivalent experience.
• Strong manufacturing and production knowledge and hands-on experience.
• Experience working with sub-tier suppliers and complex supply chains.
• Proven ability to work extremely independently and engage new suppliers with minimal supervision.
• Experience in project planning and coordination involving several sectors or functions.
• Expert-level computer skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize work.
• Strong sense of ethics and a customer-focused mindset.
• Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
• Readiness and ability to travel up to 70% of the time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with engines and aerospace industry environments.
• Experience in audit, quality control, and quality engineering activities.
• Understanding of business relationships and dynamics between suppliers and manufacturing organizations.
• Operational and financial management knowledge is considered an asset.
• Experience working with major engine suppliers and aerospace supply chains.
• Ability to provide clear, concise reporting and progress updates to diverse stakeholders.
• Capability to conduct detailed capacity and capability assessments at supplier sites and translate findings into actionable improvement plans.

Work Environment

This is a long-term, onsite role based in a Quality Department, offering the potential to convert to a direct position as long-term supplier quality improvements are implemented and sustained. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The position involves frequent travel, up to about 70% of the time, for on-site visits to key supplier locations. The environment is highly collaborative with Procurement, Quality, and Operations teams, and relies heavily on the use of Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) for analysis, reporting, and communication. The role is focused on resolving quality concerns with key suppliers, supporting continuous improvement, and maintaining stable production operations in a professional, results-oriented setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Boston, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
