This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Supplemental Instructor - Physical Therapist Assistant who will be all-in on our mission and who provides instructional support to students enrolled in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program through supplemental classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Working collaboratively with program faculty, this position reinforces course content, promotes learner-centered instruction, and supports the development of clinical skills, critical thinking, and professional behaviors necessary for student success. The Supplemental Instructor assists in maintaining a safe, engaging, and effective learning environment while supporting program outcomes and accreditation standards.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required: Associate of Applied Science Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant.

Preferred: Bachelors Degree or higher in Physical Therapy or a related healthcare field.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Clinical experience as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapist in the area(s) being taught.

Preferred:

• Demonstrated competency in physical therapy practice and patient care.
• Evidence of continuing education and professional development.
• Previous instructional, clinical education, or mentoring experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Required: Current Texas license as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) or Physical Therapist (PT).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Attend assigned classroom, laboratory, and clinical sessions to support instructional activities and prepare for supplemental instruction.
• Provide supplemental instruction that reinforces classroom, laboratory, and clinical concepts through individual and small-group learning activities.
• Assist students in developing clinical reasoning, psychomotor skills, critical thinking, professional behaviors, and clinical decision-making abilities.
• Plan, organize, and facilitate instructional activities that align with approved course objectives, student learning outcomes, and program expectations.
• Utilize learner-centered instructional methods, educational technologies, and a variety of teaching strategies to meet diverse student learning needs.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback that promotes student learning, confidence, and skill development.
• Monitor student participation and academic progress and communicate concerns or recommendations to program faculty as appropriate.
• Demonstrate the proper use of physical therapy equipment, treatment techniques, therapeutic interventions, safety procedures, and professional standards.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and professional classroom and laboratory environment while ensuring the proper use and care of instructional equipment and supplies.
• Assist with classroom setup, laboratory preparation, instructional demonstrations, simulations, and other program activities.
• Collaborate with faculty to identify student learning needs and provide supplemental academic support that enhances student success.
• Complete required attendance records, evaluations, documentation, and other administrative responsibilities accurately and in a timely manner.
• Participate in departmental meetings, faculty development activities, in-service training, accreditation activities, and program briefings as required.
• Maintain current knowledge of physical therapy practice through continuing education, professional development, and evidence-based practice.
• Support program initiatives that promote continuous improvement, student success, and compliance with accreditation and licensure standards.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of contemporary physical therapy practice, patient safety standards, therapeutic interventions, and evidence-based clinical practice.
• Knowledge of applicable licensure requirements, ethical standards, and professional guidelines governing physical therapy practice.
• Ability to effectively demonstrate and teach patient handling techniques, therapeutic procedures, and clinical skills.
• Ability to evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback that promotes learning and competency development.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Pay grade 10 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently stands, walks, bends, demonstrates patient handling techniques, and travels between classrooms, laboratories, and clinical settings. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or move instructional materials, therapeutic equipment, and supplies up to twenty-five (25) pounds as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and other program activities as needed.

Work Environment: This position operates in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical education environments. Responsibilities include providing hands-on instruction and demonstrations, utilizing instructional technology and standard office equipment, and collaborating closely with students, faculty, and healthcare professionals. The position requires flexibility to work independently and as part of an instructional team while supporting student learning in a dynamic healthcare education environment.
