Supervisor-Student Nutrition Operations

Job Status: UNTIL FILLED Posting Date: 05/26/2026 Posting Number: 013639 Location: Student Nutrition Position Title: Supervisor-Student Nutrition Operations Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports To: Director of Student Nutrition

Primary Purpose:

To project a positive, supportive, service-oriented image of the Student Nutrition Department. To ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the Student Nutrition Department. To support the goals and efforts of the Student Nutrition Department by accurately and efficiently completing assigned duties in a timely manner.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma, B.S. in Food & Nutrition or Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management preferred
  • Maintain current Food Manager''s Certificate accepted by the Texas Department of Health Services
  • Must hold a valid Texas driver''s license and be able to travel within the district on a daily basis

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to project a friendly, positive, supportive, service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work with a variety of personalities to effectively provide training
  • Good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Effective organizational skills

Experience:

  • 3 years successful food service management experience, prefer multi-unit operations and school foodservice experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

INTERACTION WITH DISTRICT STAFF AND COMMUNITY

I. Demonstrates openness and willingness to improve the effectiveness of the department''s operations.

  1. Assists and supports the efforts of all Student Nutrition staff with a positive attitude.

  2. Communicates a positive image of the department.

  3. Encourages positive morale among staff and promotes team effort within each school and within the department.

  4. Maintains positive working relationship with all school district staff and the community.

COMPLIANCE MONITORING

  1. Supervises cafeteria operations on a daily basis. (Minimum 80% of work week)

  2. Documents visits to schools with positive feedback given to staff, as well as deficiencies observed and recommendations made.

  3. Trains managers and staff in identified areas of improvement. Documents training and follow-up.

  4. Performs complete on-site reviews and follow-up on deficiencies. Presents report to FSD.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

  1. Coordinates efforts in the absence of staff and managers to allow for effective kitchen operations.

  2. Covers cafeterias in absence of the manager and thoroughly completes manager functions accurately and

completely (monitors daily work schedule, performs inventory and completes grocery orders, assists in the

kitchen as necessary, completes records in production and inventory software, etc.)

  1. Trains new cafeteria managers on all aspects of the operation.

  2. Assists cafeteria managers with staff training in all areas of the operation, as needed.

  3. Assists managers with staff evaluations.

  4. Assists managers with counseling of employees as needed.

  5. Performs new employee orientation for a11new staff members, including floaters and substitutes.

  6. Assists managers to resolve all personnel issues in the kitchen. Ensures employee remediation, policies and procedures of the district are followed.

  7. Provides written evaluation of cafeteria managers.

SUBSTITUTE EMPLOYEES/FLOATERS/TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES

  1. Conducts interviews with prospective employees and submits recommendations to hire employees.

  2. Monitors and documents performance of all substitutes, floaters and temporary employees on a weekly basis.

  3. Provides additional hands-on, on-site training to substitutes, floaters and temporary employees in any area of identified deficiency.

  4. Monitors training checklist of all substitutes, floaters and temporary employees to ensure completion of training.

  5. Completes substitutes, floaters and temporary employees'' assignment recommendations by Thursday of each week, rotating as needed to ensure well-rounded training and coverage of schools with the greatest need.

COST CONTROL

  1. Monitors production records on a weekly basis and trains managers on deficiencies to ensure accurate completion to meet TDA guidelines and regulations.

  2. Checks and monitors weekly grocery orders and inventory of campuses. Provides counseling and training on inventory management and grocery ordering.

FOOD QUALITY & MENU PLANNING

  1. Follows up on training provided by district chef to ensure standards meet food quality, food preparation, appearance, presentation and batch cooking expectations.

  2. Ensures accuracy of menus and production records in software program.

  3. Provides input for menus and recipe development.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  1. Assumes responsibility for enhancing personal skills and competencies through staff development, continuing education, etc.

  2. Initiates procedures to modify performance, as necessary, based on self-analysis and feedback.

MISCELLANEOUS

  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Student Nutrition Director.

  2. Keeps Student Nutrition Director and Assistant Director informed about the affairs of the Department.

Salary: Pay Grade OS09 $29.86 - $35.25 hourly rate commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
