Description

Our client, a Automotive company, is looking for a Supervisor - Production III for their Redford¸ MI location.
 
Responsibilities:

  • The main function of a supervisor/manager – production is to supervise and coordinate the activities of production and operating workers.
  • Implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
  • Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.
  • Develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, and maintenance to detect production problems.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and discharge staff, and resolve personal grievances.
  • Set and monitor product standards to ensure quality finished products.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records.
  • This is a contract Production Supervisor III role supporting axle assembly operations on the afternoon shift at client Detroit Manufacturing Plant.
  • The supervisor will lead a UAW-represented team responsible for supplying axles to OEM plants, following customer line-ups daily to determine what axles to build and ensuring quality and on-time delivery commitments are met.
  • This is an independent leadership role — the supervisor runs the assembly line and is expected to manage the operation with minimal handholding.
  • The manager is looking for someone who can walk in, earn the team's respect, and keep a high-output operation moving.
  • The shift begins with a 10-minute handoff meeting covering delivery, cost, and team updates.
  • Approximately two hours into the shift, the supervisor meets with the manager to report up information that will be passed to the director.

Requirements:
  • Verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree in business or related field preferred.
  • 5-7 years experience required.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience
  • Supervisory experience managing 15 or more people
  • UAW environment experience
  • Strong leadership and independent problem-solving skills — this person runs the line; they need to be self-directed
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to manage up — comfortable reporting out to management and communicating clearly across levels
  • Bachelor's degree in production, mechanical engineering, or a related field with 3 or more years of experience preferred.
  • Candidates with a high school diploma will be considered only with a minimum of 8 years of professional supervisory experience.
  • Leadership experience (automotive supervisory experience) & problem solving skills
  • Conflict resolution skills and abilities
