Position Summary

Works under the medical supervision of a physician and the administrative direction of the Managing Nurse within the Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Program. Provides professional supervisory nursing care and clinical oversight for patients receiving TB-related services. Supervises nursing staff, coordinates clinical operations, ensures compliance with TB program guidelines and public health standards, and supports quality improvement and public health response activities.

Pay Grade: 55

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of nursing experience in a lead or supervisory capacity, and a bachelor''s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing; OR
  • One (1) year of nursing experience in a lead or supervisory capacity, and a master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee (licensure application must be submitted by the date of employment).
  • Experience in public health nursing, communicable disease management, or tuberculosis services is preferred.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned nursing and clinical staff within the TB Clinic.
  • Provides direct supervision and guidance to Nurse Case Managers and Charge Nurses.
  • Coordinates patient care activities with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff.
  • Provides orientation, training, and ongoing education to Charge Nurses and Nurse Case Managers.
  • Ensures compliance with Shelby County Health Department policies, CDC guidelines, State TB Program requirements, and established clinical protocols.
  • Oversees and reports TB case management and Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI) data in TB PAM and other required systems.
  • Participates in cohort reviews, quality improvement initiatives, audits, trainings, webinars, and other educational activities required by the TB Program.
  • Conducts ongoing monitoring and periodic reviews to ensure adherence to established standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Prepares reports, maintains records, and ensures proper documentation of clinical and program activities.
  • Participates in public health emergency preparedness and response activities, including required training, drills, and disaster response efforts.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.

  • Knowledge of social and economic forces affecting the health of people and of family and group relationships, and the aims and purposes of local health departments.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices, personnel management, and public health nursing principles.
  • Knowledge of tuberculosis prevention, treatment, case management, and infection control practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and data management skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, standards, and program guidelines.
  • Ability to supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make evidence-based decisions in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, staff, public health partners, and the community.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other County software applications.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver''s license or secure one upon date of employment.
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee (licensure application must have been submitted upon date of employment).
  • Must be willing to carry a cellular phone.
  • Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and training credentials throughout the duration of employment.
