POSITION SUMMARY
The Supervisor, Dispensing owns safe, accurate, and timely shift execution, directly influencing patient access, service reliability, cost, and regulatory readiness. This leader converts departmental priorities into disciplined workflows, accountable staffing, technician performance, and rapid issue resolution across Empower’s hyper-growth, highly regulated 503A and 503B environment. AI serves as a force multiplier, accelerating trend detection, workload planning, quality surveillance, documentation, and decision-making while preserving required human oversight and data integrity. The role coordinates cross-shift and cross-functional execution, strengthens inspection readiness, and advances scalable operating standards that improve throughput without compromising quality. Success requires strategic thinking grounded in frontline realities, exceptional execution rigor, learning agility, sound judgment, and the resilience to lead change, coach teams, and continuously raise performance in a fast-moving pharmacy operation with measurable overall business impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Shift Operations
- Execution Control: Direct daily dispensing activities by translating production priorities into clear assignments, sequencing work, balancing labor, and monitoring flow against service commitments. Use AI-enabled dashboards and exception alerts to anticipate constraints, adjust resources, and escalate risks early, ensuring every shift delivers accurate, timely output while maintaining documented controls, human verification, and compliance with approved procedures.
- Resource Coordination: Coordinate staffing, equipment, materials, and handoffs across shifts to sustain throughput and operational continuity. Apply AI-supported forecasting to identify workload patterns, absenteeism exposure, and emerging bottlenecks, then make disciplined deployment decisions. Communicate changes clearly, preserve chain-of-custody and workflow requirements, and partner with upstream and downstream teams to prevent avoidable delays, rework, or service disruption.
- Issue Resolution: Serve as the primary shift escalation point for workflow interruptions, personnel concerns, customer-impacting events, and system exceptions. Rapidly assess facts, use AI-assisted pattern recognition where appropriate, and select compliant countermeasures with sound judgment. Document decisions, engage pharmacy leadership or support functions when thresholds are met, and ensure follow-through eliminates recurrence while protecting patients, employees, and business continuity.
Quality And Compliance
- Quality Oversight: Maintain shift-level accountability for dispensing accuracy, safety, productivity, and adherence to approved policies, pharmacy laws, and quality systems. Review AI-generated exception signals, audit results, and performance trends to prioritize interventions, while independently validating conclusions. Reinforce right-first-time behaviors, stop work when required, and ensure deviations, corrections, and preventive actions are documented completely and advanced through established governance.
- Inspection Readiness: Sustain continuous audit and inspection readiness by verifying records, training status, workstation controls, and procedural compliance throughout the shift. Use AI tools to organize evidence, detect missing documentation, and surface recurring control gaps without replacing required review. Conduct targeted checks, correct deficiencies promptly, and coach technicians on expectations specific to Empower’s highly regulated 503A and 503B operating environment.
- Risk Prevention: Identify operational and compliance risks before they affect quality, patients, or service. Combine frontline observation, technician feedback, and AI-supported trend analysis to detect error precursors, capacity strain, and process drift. Implement immediate containment, escalate significant risks, and coordinate durable corrective actions with Quality, Pharmacy, Training, and Technology partners, measuring effectiveness until controls are stable and performance is sustained.
People Leadership
- Team Performance: Lead, coach, and hold dispensing technicians accountable for results, behaviors, attendance, and procedural discipline. Set clear shift expectations, observe performance directly, and use AI-informed productivity and quality insights to tailor coaching fairly. Recognize strong contributions, address gaps promptly, and build a high-performance environment grounded in Empower’s values, psychological safety, inclusion, ownership, and consistent service to patients and partners.
- Capability Building: Develop technician capability through structured onboarding, cross-training, skills verification, and ongoing feedback tied to operational needs. Use AI-enabled learning insights to identify knowledge gaps, recommend practice priorities, and track progress, while ensuring qualified leaders validate proficiency. Create growth opportunities, reinforce learning agility, and maintain adequate bench strength so the team can absorb change, scale responsibly, and execute reliably.
- Change Leadership: Translate new policies, technologies, and workflow changes into practical shift-level adoption plans. Explain the business and compliance rationale, identify readiness risks, and use AI-supported adoption metrics to target reinforcement. Model disciplined execution, listen to frontline feedback, resolve barriers quickly, and partner with stakeholders to implement change with minimal disruption, measurable uptake, and sustained adherence to the intended operating standard.
Continuous Improvement
- Data Analysis: Analyze dispensing performance across productivity, accuracy, rework, downtime, staffing, and service indicators to identify meaningful trends. Leverage AI to accelerate data synthesis, anomaly detection, and scenario evaluation, then apply operational judgment before acting. Convert findings into prioritized countermeasures, clear owners, and measurable targets, ensuring improvements support patient safety, regulatory compliance, employee effectiveness, and scalable business performance.
- Process Improvement: Lead practical Lean and continuous-improvement efforts that simplify work, reduce waste, and strengthen control. Map current processes with technicians, use AI-assisted analysis to test root-cause hypotheses, and pilot solutions within approved change practices. Standardize successful improvements, update training and documentation, and monitor results over time so gains in speed, quality, capacity, and employee experience remain durable.
- Partner Alignment: Collaborate with Pharmacy Operations, Quality, Training, Inventory, Customer Service, Facilities, and Technology to resolve dependencies and advance shared priorities. Bring concise shift data, AI-supported insights, and frontline context to decisions. Clarify ownership, timelines, and escalation paths; communicate outcomes across shifts; and ensure cross-functional actions translate into consistent execution, reduced friction, and stronger performance throughout the dispensing value stream.
