    GROUP: Central Office Administrators - Schedule A LEVEL: A FLSA STATUS: Exempt WORKDAYS PER FISCAL YEAR: 246 HOLIDAYS: 14 SUMMARY: The Supervisor of Community Safety is a member of the leadership team within the Department of Community Safety. The position provides strategic systems leadership as a trainer, consultant, incident leader, and direct supervisor supporting emergency management, operational readiness, crisis response, safety systems, staff development, and continuous improvement while ensuring high-quality daily operations.

    STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

    • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Director of Community Safety.
    • Lead implementation of departmental strategic priorities, annual goals, and performance measures.
    • Serve as the Director designee when assigned.
    • Champion district strategic goals and a culture of belonging.
    • Build partnerships with schools, families, labor partners, public safety, and community agencies.

    FISCAL STEWARDSHIP

    • Assist with budget planning and resource stewardship.
    • Monitor assigned expenditures and technology investments.
    • Support procurement and lifecycle planning for safety systems and equipment.

    TALENT DEVELOPMENT

    • Supervise, evaluate, coach, and mentor assigned staff.

    • Oversee training cadre, FTO program, and instructor development.
    • Develop future leaders and foster a culture of accountability and growth.

    DEPARTMENTAL LEADERSHIP

    • Support implementation and evaluation of department procedures, annual goals, performance measures, and operational improvement initiatives.
    • Serve as the Director's designee and maintain department operations in the Director's absence, within delegated authority.
    • Build effective working relationships with school leaders, district departments, students, families, labor partners, community organizations, and public safety agencies.
    • Prepare operational reports, recommendations, plans, and other administrative products for review by the Director.

    District Wide Incident Command Leadership

    • Share responsibility with the Director, or serve as assigned, for the district's emergency management, preparedness, response, recovery, and operational readiness activities.
    • Apply and support district use of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), and applicable emergency management practices.
    • Serve in assigned ICS positions, including Incident Commander or Unified Command representative when designated, and support coordination of incident objectives, resources, communications, documentation, and transition to recovery.

    Daily Operations

    • Coordinate daily operations, staffing, scheduling, report review, log review, quality assurance, training compliance, and consistent service delivery.
    • Review all officer reports, to ensure compliance with department procedures, and assign next steps, as necessary.
    • Schedule work hours of all officers for event coverage, open shift coverage, etc.
    • Maintain high visibility in schools and throughout the district supporting Officers in their schools.
    • Collaborate and consult with district leaders and teams to ensure coherent systems that always support student safety.
    • Develop, prepare, and coordinate departmental procedures, in alignment with School Board policy and local laws/regulations.
    • Observe district facilities and grounds for safety; takes action to resolve safety issues.
    • Exercise discernment to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all safety matters.
    • Organize and oversee the district safety and access systems alongside the Director of Community Safety, including but not limited to: Cameras, alarms, radios/radio communication, badges, keys and locks.

    Emergency Preparedness and Training

    • Coordinate and/or facilitate safety and prevention trainings for students, staff and district leadership.
    • Assist with development, implementation, review, and improvement of the District Emergency Operations Plan, school emergency plans, continuity of operations plans, response annexes, and supporting procedures.
    • Plan, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate drills, tabletop exercises, functional exercises, and other preparedness activities in partnership with Community Safety Director. JOB DESCRIPTION: SUPERVISOR of COMMUNITY SAFETY

    • Facilitate or support After Action Reviews, Improvement Plans, and follow-through on corrective actions after incidents, drills, and exercises.
    • Maintain collaborative operational relationships with law enforcement, fire, EMS, emergency management, public health, and other response partners.

    Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in school safety, public safety, emergency management, law enforcement, or a related field. Five (5) years of leadership, supervision, or management experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a law enforcement academy School district safety or emergency management experience. Experience developing emergency plans, coordinating exercises, facilitating After Action Reviews, and managing after action improvement plans Demonstrated experience applying Incident Command System principles. Experience leading group training and one-to-one training. Completion of ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-400, IS-700, and IS-800; HSEEP, FEMA Basic Academy, or comparable emergency management training.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Attend and pass annual firearms training

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Criminal background clearance Valid Washington State driver's license and proof of insurance ICS-100, ICS -200, ICS -300, ICS -400, IS -700, and IS -800 required within six months of hire; additional ICS or emergency management coursework as assigned. First Aid and CPR certification required within six months of hire. All certificates, licenses, endorsements, permits, and vaccines (absent exemption) as required for this position by state and local authorities Ability to participate in an on -call rotation and respond to emergencies, critical incidents, and district needs outside normal work hours. Ability to carry concealed firearm and to conform to all applicable laws, district policies, and insurance carrier requirements necessary to do so.     REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Director of Community Safety

    EVALUATION: The Assistant Director is evaluated annually by the Director of Community Safety , or designee, pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluative criteria. Such evaluations shall include an evaluation of the performance of the duties and responsibilities set forth above together with accomplishment of co-created annual goals.

    While performing this job, the employee is required to frequently walk and stand for prolonged periods and occasionally sit. The employee may be required in some positions to have sufficient dexterity, mobility, physical ability and stamina, to restrain individuals in accordance with established guidelines, and sufficient mobil ity to respond to students' needs. The employee is required to lift/carry a maximum of 15 pounds constantly; up to 20 pounds frequently; and up to 70 pounds occasionally. The employee is required to push and/or pull a maximum force of 112 pounds.

    This position requires visual concentration on detail and physical dexterity. The person holding this position is required to work outdoors in inclement weather. The employee will drive a district vehicle. This position could experience frequent to occasio nal confrontational situations with intruders on school grounds which requires constant awareness of an attention to personal safety. The employee must have the ability to make effective decisions and solve problems using sound judgment in crisis situation s; requires individual initiative and teamwork; may occasionally deal with distraught, escalated or difficult individuals, as well as students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and/or environmental challenges. This position requires excellent listening skills; visual concentration and manual dexterity to operate radio, phone and complete required paperwork. The employee may be required to attend extracurricular activities; travel between sites; and work effectively and communicate with groups and individuals of all ages in a multi-cultural community.
