Job Description and Duties
The Personnel Services Branch (PSB) provides human resources support to all CDFW employees. Staff in the Payroll and Personnel Section are responsible for performing tasks associated with appointments, separations, payroll, and leave accounting in compliance with California labor laws and regulations, bargaining unit contracts, departmental policies and procedures, and control agency directives.
PSB is looking for an independent and innovative leaders to serve as one of our Payroll and Personnel Supervisors! This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing staff to provide a high level of customer service in the administration of payroll, leave accounting, appointments, and separations for the department. This position will also work closely with managers and supervisors in other units including the Benefits and Disability Unit and Classification and Recruitment Units to ensure all human resources practices and procedures are adhered to.
This position provides consultation to Executive Management and personally handles the most sensitive complex projects.

The incumbent can expect to have multiple shifting priorities each day with critical deadlines that must be met, while ensuring that an excellent level of customer service is provided to all CDFW employees at all times.
This position is headquartered in a state of the art high-rise building located in downtown Sacramento, and is designated as remote-centered. Telework may be an option in accordance with departmental policy and the incumbent's job performance.

This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Employees are currently required to work in-person at least two (2) days per week. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs.

Working Conditions
The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting, with artificial light and temperature control. The ability to use a personal computer and telephone is essential. The position requires bending and stooping to retrieve files; walking; occasional light lifting, up to 10 - 15 lbs. Occasional travel may be required.
This position is designated as remote-centered; the incumbent will telework an average of three days per week and report to the office two days per week. Additional office days will be required periodically for training, team building events, and critical work assignments. Telework schedules are subject to change at any time subject to the proper notice.
