Summary: The Supervisor 1 - Utilities Line Locate is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and performing utility line locating activities for the Dept. of Utilities (DU) water and wastewater systems. This position oversees all utility locate operations, utility infrastructure verification, and underground utility damage prevention activities while ensuring compliance with Louisiana One Call requirements and applicable state regulations. The Supervisor 1 - Utilities Line Locate also oversees the location of utility infrastructure to support the ongoing initiative to locate and map all DU owned and maintained systems including operating geodatabase field equipment and understanding and managing GIS mapping software interfaces to support the overall mapping initiative. The Supervisor 1 - Utilities Line Locate also works closely with Utilities Development to coordinate and oversee the inspections for all proposed new utility infrastructure.
The position provides leadership to line locating personnel while coordinating closely with Utility Engineering, Utility Operations, Parish GIS, Utility Compliance, contractors, developers, and other utility divisions.

Competencies:
Work Environment: The incumbent typically performs in an outdoor environment. This includes construction sites, open and empty land, wooded areas, both urban and rural roads and drainage, muddy areas, swampy areas, hot, humid, cold, and wed conditions that are consistent with outdoor projects. The incumbent may also be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment. This position may include work performed in an office environment for training, plan reviews, meetings, and project preparation and progress reviews.
Physical Demands: Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.
Required Education/Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent GED and minimum of five years of experience in a sewer and water utility role that includes utility maintenance and the location of underground utilities. Must have valid Driver's License.
Preferred Education/Qualifications/Experience: General knowledge of the rules and regulations governing utility location and digging in servitudes/rights-of-way. Experience with supervising field personnel. General knowledge of construction and project management. LDH Operator certifications for water distribution and wastewater collection.
