Summary: The Supervisor 1 is responsible for overseeing direct reports and their work schedule in designated areas. Responsible to oversee all operations of the area assigned including employee supervision, participation in hiring subordinates and monitoring the conduct of employees.

  • Organize, file and oversee correctness of reports and forms.
  • Create, design, and update operation and emergency manuals
  • Supervise monitoring and upkeep of Trace facilities including vehicles
  • Manage, schedule, and prepare for special events
  • Handle various personnel duties including orientation procedures and updating orientation manual, routing safety and training meetings, hiring/interviewing and annual evaluations
  • Monitor severe weather situations and assist in providing weather updates as needed to the CRT properties
  • Staying alert to any medical, safety or security issues and notifying supervisor and/or 911 of any emergencies; be familiar with the emergency manual and emergency procedures
  • Scheduling and reporting employees' payroll time within the parish policy guideline
  • Ensure that all required documentation is submitted and recorded
  • Advise supervised employees of changes in policy
  • Complete performance evaluations in a fair and equitable manner
  • Meet and handle the public in a professional courteous manner and provide assistance within the guidelines established
  • May be required to respond to after-hour calls or attend after hour meetings as requested by the Director
  • May need to work additional hours as required during emergency situations and assign on-call personnel
  • Regular, consistent attendance is required
  • Any other duties as assigned

Competencies: Employee must be able to operate basic office equipment, office computer and software, and any other specialty equipment needed for the position. Employee must be able to give instructions plainly and clearly to others and have an ability to supervise a variety of employees and tasks. Employee must be able to operate a golf cart and two-wheeled vehicles such as bicycles and motorized scooters. Must be available for varied schedules, rotating shifts and may be required to work on weekends, holidays and special events. Ability to drive a standard transmission [non-automatic transmission] vehicle required.

Work Environment: The primary duties of this position may be performed in the field, in an office or both. The field includes high traffic and open areas of empty land which might include swampy, wet conditions and exposure to wildlife and insects. This position is not limited to the field and may also include an office environment to complete necessary documents pertaining to the job.

Physical Demands: Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions.

Required Education/Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required. Position requires a valid Driver's License. Employee must have three years' experience as a Trace Ranger or similar experience. Prior experience in communicating with the general public and supervisory experience is preferred.
