Summary of Position
The Health Department’s Public Health Bureau is seeking to fill a full-time Supervising Public Health Nurse (SPHN) position in the Tuberculosis (TB) Unit within the Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Division.
The TB Unit is responsible for the timely identification and management of individuals with active or suspected tuberculosis, preventing TB transmission, and coordinating patient care to support successful completion of treatment. As part of comprehensive case management, the TB Unit works to identify and address urgent medical and psychosocial needs and barriers to care through appropriate utilization of healthcare and community resources. The program administers Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) throughout Monterey County conducts contact investigations to identify individuals who may have been exposed to tuberculosis and ensure appropriate evaluation and follow-up.
The SPHN coordinates and supervises the operation of public health-related services within the TB Unit. The SPHN oversees a multidisciplinary team of professional, paraprofessional, and support staff responsible for providing case management services, conducting contact investigations, and delivering health education. Additional responsibilities include updating protocols, tracking expenditures, and creating reports.
The SPHN provides leadership, guidance, and staff development to support consistent, high-quality, patient-centered services. The position works collaboratively with healthcare providers, laboratories, schools, congregate settings, and other community partners to coordinate care and promote appropriate TB screening, evaluation, treatment, and infection control practices.
As of September 8, 2023, the Health Department may offer up to $10,000 signing bonus to candidates hired into regular full-time positions for this classification from this recruitment hired after September 8, 2023.
