Job Title: Construction Superintendent / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)Job Description

The Construction Superintendent / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) oversees day-to-day field operations for multiple federal construction projects at secure facilities in Virginia, including work at Quantico and the Pentagon. This role coordinates all onsite activities to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with NAVFAC, DoD, and contract requirements. The Superintendent / SSHO serves as the primary onsite leader and safety authority, managing subcontractors, enforcing safety and quality standards, and acting as the main point of contact with Government representatives and facility stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day field operations for multiple federal construction projects at secure installations in Virginia.
• Coordinate all onsite construction activities to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with NAVFAC, DoD, and contract requirements.
• Serve as the primary onsite leader and Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), setting expectations and maintaining a strong safety culture.
• Act as the main point of contact with Government representatives and facility stakeholders, providing professional communication and regular updates.
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards.
• Enforce safety and quality standards in accordance with EM 385-1-1, NAVFAC quality control processes, and federal construction requirements.
• Read and interpret mechanical plans, specifications, and submittals to guide field execution and resolve issues in the field.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee crane lifts and rooftop work, ensuring all activities follow safety and regulatory requirements.
• Manage work in active, occupied environments, minimizing disruptions while maintaining strict safety and security protocols.
• Support and implement NAVFAC quality control processes, including documentation, inspections, and compliance tracking.
• Monitor federal project scheduling and inspection requirements, ensuring milestones and inspections occur on time.
• Coordinate mechanical trade activities, including work related to RTU replacements, HVAC upgrades, and building mechanical systems, as applicable.
• Maintain detailed, accurate project records related to safety, quality, scheduling, and inspections.
• Promote a detail-oriented approach focused on safety, quality, and compliance across all field operations.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 8-10 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent and/or SSHO on federal general contractor projects.
• At least 10 years of federal general contractor (GC) experience.
• Active, non-expired Construction Quality Management (CQM) certification.
• Active, non-expired OSHA 30-hour certification.
• Strong field leadership skills with proven experience coordinating mechanical trades.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans, specifications, and submittals.
• Experience coordinating crane lifts and rooftop work.
• Detail-oriented mindset with a strong focus on safety and quality.
• Professional communication skills for interaction with Government and facility stakeholders.
• Comfort working in active, occupied environments with strict security and operational requirements.
• Working knowledge of mechanical construction sequencing and coordination.
• Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 safety standards.
• Working knowledge of NAVFAC quality control processes and documentation.
• Working knowledge of federal project scheduling and inspection requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience with RTU replacements, HVAC upgrades, or building mechanical systems.
• Experience working on NAVFAC, USACE, or other DoD projects.
• Familiarity with construction on active military installations, strongly preferred.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite at secure federal facilities in Virginia, including work at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA and the Quantico base in VA. The position operates within active, occupied environments where mission-critical activities continue during construction. The work setting involves close coordination with Government representatives, facility stakeholders, and multiple subcontractors, often in mechanically intensive areas such as rooftops and mechanical rooms. Field operations require consistent presence on site, adherence to strict safety and security protocols, and comfort working in and around active military or federal installations. The environment emphasizes compliance with EM 385-1-1 safety standards, NAVFAC quality control processes, and federal scheduling and inspection requirements.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
