As a Superintendent Emergency Services you will administer and coordinate an effective emergency response program, and assist with the overall safety program to ensure the safety of persons in the facility and surrounding community.

  • Maintain up to date Emergency Procedures (ICP, FRP, etc.) ensuring compliance with applicable government regulations and/or standards (OSHA, DOT, EPA, PSM, etc).
  • Ensure emergency readiness of all refinery emergency response equipment and provide oversight of fixed fire protection systems.
  • Provide overall assistance/direction to the Incident Commander and may assume Incident Commander responsibilities during emergencies.
  • Request and coordinate any outside assistance as needed.
  • Provide leadership to emergency response personnel during emergencies ensuring the safety of employees, and community.
  • Provide technical assistance/advice on risk management issues related to fire protection and emergency preparedness and response.
  • Oversee oil spill response program as needed.
  • Support the Safety department by providing occupational safety, health, and industrial hygiene expertise to refinery personnel as needed.
  • Schedule and evaluate off site specialized training. Set guidelines, administer, and review expense accounts related to emergency response activities.
  • Develop, administer, and control the fire protection budget.
  • Assist with new employee orientation. Coordinate the inspection and testing of emergency response equipment (fire trucks, trailers, pumps, fire protection systems, safety equipment, etc.) and maintain the appropriate records.
  • Develop, coordinate, and document emergency and evacuation drills for plant personnel.
  • Coordinate emergency response drills with the city, county and mutual aid partners.
  • Recommend fire protection policies and procedures for management approval.
  • Provide monthly progress report on all emergency equipment and training for the Refinery Safety Manager.
  • Assist with insurance inspections of the fire protection systems and equipment.
  • Maintain contact with local industrial counterparts.
  • Maintain an equipment inventory list with design performance specifications.
  • Participate in incident investigations as required.
  • Researche and interpret federal, state and local regulations, policies and procedures related to emergency response and safety.
  • Ability to lead others under extreme conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation.
  • Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications.
  • Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods.
  • Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes.
  • Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage department responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements.
  • Basic skill using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word and Excel).

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

The salary range for this position is $133,000 to $183,000 and represents Valero's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of expected compensation at the time of this posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of job-related factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications and experience.

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 10 years of directly related experience required.
